Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How do you get the internet radio to work?

    2nd impressions . . . .

New AriVa logo as the box turns on!

3/ Channel changes/Menu changes much faster.
4/ Giant Channel number bottom left of screen,
blue & green signal strength & quality bars gone.
5/ Menu changes = very subtle, which I have warmed to.
7/ Internet Radio SORT button now works fine.

Can't get internet radio working..or at least not sure how to even try tbh.

Really hate what they have done to the on screen display. they couldn't make it look any cheaper if they tried. The giant channel number looks terrible,. The channel change and info are working much faster, but the overall look of things has gone backward imo.

Providing you have the latest Firmware [V2.18B6] its very straight forward. Just connect the back of the Ariva120 to your Broadband Router using an 'ethernet cable' and before you know it you will get a message on the screen saying {STB successfully got IP address} you will then have full access to all the internet radio stations listed + the weather forecast feature. (PS: you must also have a Hard drive/USB stick plugged into the USB socket for the Web radio/weather to work).

Takes a while to get used to it alright, but I think the positives far outweigh any negatives about the look of the new displays.
I'm totally thrilled now that I can record and playback HD programmes on my hard drive (the previous firmware wouldnt allow me).

I've never understood what use an internet radio function serves on a STB! You can access hundreds of thousands of stations at home using a very basic wif-fi enabled media player.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tunein.player&hl=en
    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-Galaxy-S-42andquot-8-GB-Touchscreen-MP3-Player/313463/196.1

Seriously wasteful and full of hassle to be listening to the radio when you need to involve a local area connection and TV in the process =p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,034 ✭✭✭✭Johnboy1951

The necessity for a flash stick/HDD to be plugged in to get the radio stations is oft-times missed.

    @LordSutch (& others of course)

Have you tried connecting to a LAN address?

I wondered if one could set up a LAN player and listen to it by entering the URL ... maybe using VLC to 'broadcast' on the LAN.

I tried this when I first got the 120, but never succeeded.

I haven't updated the firmware for quite a while, but if this is now possible it would encourage me to do so.

What the hell is with the text speak:eek::mad::rolleyes:

The stations with the dollar signs are Sky subscription channells and you will have to pay Sky to watch them.

No offense Bryan but text speak gets a negative reaction here and I think you will get a much better response if you use normal text.

Look, you're new here. Welcome to Boards. Text speak is a no no in these forums.

To answer your question, Sky will insist in their cards going in their boxes only. You will also have to pay a multiroom sub. We are not allowed to discuss ways to circumvent Sky's conditions of service, so you will be on your own for that. Google is your friend.

To get a channel list I recommend that you read back through the thread and you might get one

Having an issue for the last few weeks with both terrestrial and sat input on my 120. Works fine for the most part but then just lose signal...if i plug out the cables for a minute and plug them back in...its fine again for another few days. It doesn't happen at the same time...sometimes sat channels go, sometimes saorview go.
Had a mate who is a sky installer, replace the cable from the lnb down to the 120 and was fine for a few days or so and then back again.
Have saorview in the kitchen and bedroom from the same aerial so not convinced its the feed from that either as I never lose signal to either of those two rooms.

I don't want to shell out for another box unless I am sure its the problem. Any ideas how I could narrow this issue down a bit more?

I have thought it might be the LNB, but that does not explain the Saorview dropping as well...and as I say I never lose saorview anywhere else in the house?

Just guessing but I guess you have some sort of splitter if you have a saorview feed going to kitchen, bedroom and one going to Ariva (living room) - so could be a splitter problem?

The sat feed is going only to the Ariva?

But could well be the box :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

If the lnb is drawing too much current then it could affect the power supply which may well cause both tuners to stop working .

There is a splitter in the attic for the saorview aerial, but the fact that the sat feed is dropping as well, and saorview is fine in other rooms suggests to me that is not the issue but an easy one to change. Sat feed is going only to the ariva.

Might try changing the LNB and see what happens..both of those cheaper than buying a new box until I know for sure.

    Thanks guys.

Thinking out loud, I dont think it can be the LNB on the basis that you say the saorview signal drops too which has no link to the LNB. (I just read Tony' point and maybe he is right)

Im not trying to be funny but do make sure that all your F-connectors are connected well.

If possible, maybe you could borrow someone elses box and see how you get on with that or bring your box to someone elses house. If your in Dublin, and dont have anyone else, perhaps I could lend you mine.

Thanks for the offer iba but got my hands on a sky box for the weekend, so if not happening on that I'm going to change the box.

    See what happens I suppose.

Ah ha, just seen another advantage on the new firmware V2.18B6.

The front display panel now says PLAY and REC, previously it just displayed
    dashes for play & record.

    hi everybody!
in the ariva 120 combo manual it says external hard drives must have their own power supplies. i think i remember reading about it here a while back also. well for anyone who cares, im using a toshiba 500gb v63700-a which just plugs straight into the usb and have had no problems recording or rewinding. i think it cost me €60. how bad!

Once you are aware that if the drive damages the USB power supply, it is not the fault of the manufacturer ;)

Also over time you *might* get variations in stability if the drive draws too much juice from the connection.

    ;)

Quick Question - Using the media player on this for the first time. Have selected the film I want to watch and its playing in the top right hand corner. How do I get it to go to full screen. Cans seem to be able to do it and reckon I am missing something obvious.
    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Daarrgh

I don't really want to state the really really obvious, but isn't it just an extra press of the ok button?
    Sorry, if that's ridiculous.

    RTE+1 is blank.

    Hi folks,

Moved house a month or two ago, and recently I can't get RTE+1. It has sound, but the picture's just completely black. RTE Junior's the same, but I never watch that anyway, so I'm not too worried.

Any suggestions? Should I try re-tuning?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Try deleting all the saorview radio and tv channels and re scan after 7pm

Wonder will the HD120 ever have a firmware update which permits it to receive Youtube/Netflix etc?

And might the latest HD150 firmware work on this machine?

I guess not, (but just on the off chance) :)

No, 150 F/W does not work on the 120.

    150 4 150
    250 4 250
    120 4 120

Do not ever install the incorrect f/w or you will have to do a null cable reboot

    Simples :)

Has anyone had any problems with BBC News? For some time now, mine has been showing 'BBC Alba' where News was.

I've just updated the firmware, re-loaded the channel list and BBC Alba is still where News was.

I've started searching for the individual tuning details for that channel, but I cannot remember how to tune it in on the satellite :(

OK I just found this, it has been addressed here: http://www.tvtrade.ie/blog/tag/cbbc/

    very stupid question no doubt.

Just done the firmware upgrade for the first time and now doing a channel scan/installation for first time (Tony and the guys set it all up last year :) - works perfect lads, cheers). But which satellites do I need to scan for the regular channels? Presumably there's no need to scan all 38 available satellites?

and do a bliind scan with FTA only

I'd actally advise a fast or full scan with FTA only and network search turned on, that way you will download the transponder info in case any are missing from the firmware. A blind scan will search all parametrs but will take quite some time.

    Great Thanks Tony.

I did the scan as Iba said, but might redo.

I didn't get the BBC HD channels

And for some reason only the terrestrial channels and the E4 and more4 channels are showing "Now and Next" every other channel is blank with no programming info. Don't know why that would happen

Tony knows more than me but I have done a blind scan before before and pulled in more stations than when I do a network scan with full - why not try both and post back how many come through with each.

Ive no idea why you didnt get BBC HD, sorry as for now and next, Ive no idea either coz I never use it

both methods seem to produce same channel lists.
No BBC Hds tho and it is really annoying not have the now or next info. very strange.
