**Wireless Card**

    Hopefully the board can help me out.

    Mam has an old Dell Inspiron 6000 (XP) with a wireless card.

    She recently got broadband installed but the router is N only.

    Think the wireless card is 802.11 a/g so needs updating.

    Just looking for advice - should I replace the card to be compatible with the router or would a usb adapter do the same job?

    On many N routers 'Wireless N only' is often just a configuration setting, might be worth checking out for sure before splashing out on a new card.

    As for the card itself, either option would be fine although it would probably be tidier to replace the internal card itself (It is very easily done on most laptops).

    The only other thing to lookout for is that whatever one you select has working XP drivers.

    Does she need the N speed ? AFAIK N routers will fall back to G unless all connecting adapters are N, but still work

    As far as I am aware there are no ISP's in Ireland who supply broadband at a speed anywhere near that of wireless N.
