@bazermc - You should have created the segment as private - that way only your results will show up.

Since I can't see how to mark an already created segment as private (maybe someone else can point that out) you can still limit the results to your results only by selecting that option on the segment page.

the reason why a new KOM has arrived is based one of two things. Either the person only uploaded the file after you created the segment (unlikely but possible) or more likely once you create a segment in Strava it goes back over all the rides in the database to pull out any rides which covered that segment and adds them to the board. This can take some time and may only populate after a while.

Buffalo got in before me - damn you work!!!!! Do they not know t'internet does not wait?

Cheers I will either delete or amend the segment - i refuse to let some guy i dont know be KOM on my own segment :D

You could just go and beat him!!!! Even if you delete the segment, you know, deep down, you will always know, that he has the KOM.

Any takers? An Irish 308km segment!

Do it in less than 14hrs 7 mins and the KOM is yours. :D

Over short distances most phones are far from great, The galaxy S2 is alright but I know some of my earlier segment times were off by upto 10 seconds (sometimes faster, sometimes slower).
The EDGE 500 was excellent for me. The Edge 200 I would presume is of similar GPS quality, they are about 120 in halfords at the minute (in store) if you have an AXA card and/or wait for one of their 15% of all cycling related weekends, you could pick it up for approx. 100euros.

I'm very very impressed with the accuracy of my Sony Xperia Tipo.

Have a look at some of my rides - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1478161

    Here's a good example - http://app.strava.com/activities/51936100

Zoom all the way in to the road just to west of Wellington Bridge - it even picks up what side of the road I was on.

Used Strava properly for the first time on Sunday, managed a KOM on a sprint section. Didn't even know it was there. I'll be going out to do it properly in a few days. I'll cling like death to this one.

I've been using Strava on and off for a year but only seriously since the past couple of months. That said I don't make not of segments and make a go at them. I just go do my training and see how I did after it. I go out with club mates that bust a gut on a hill as it's a strava segment and are wiped for the rest of the ride. Pointless to me but whatever floats their boat.

    One for Beasty. :D

    KOM Sniper
    https://twitter.com/komsniper

    From a google + post:
It isn't very user friendly yet, but, if you use Strava and Twitter and want to be notified when the wind speed in your area meets or exceeds a certain speed, follow @komsniper, send a tweet with your location information enabled that contains a speed like 20mph.

Every hour, it'll check the weather conditions around you and if the wind condition exceeds the speed you've set, it'll send you a tweet.

It should work for people outside the USA depending on Yahoo's location ID search, but, if it doesn't, I do have some logging enabled and will be watching the tweets as they come in.

Or...create a virtual partner for your garmin so you can see how your attack on a segment is going?

No urban legend. I've heard Snopes confirmed that one.
