more than 3/4 through my ortho treatment I received a letter from the practice informing me that the orthodontist that was dealing with me 'had left the practice' and that another orthodontist was taking her place. No futher explanation was given. I was asked to visit the practice asap to be reassessed. When i did, the new orthodontist seemed unhappy with the previous one and told me that he had a different plan in mind.he also hinted that my former ortho was not doing a good job, and i have a suspision, based on comments that were made, she may have been sacked by the practice. I am very unhappy with the professionalism of this practice given that is a well respected and highly reputable one. I am now worried about the quality of the treatment i was receiving, and that i am currently receiving, especially considering the huge cost of the treatment (5000+) Did anybody have a similar experience and what do they recommend i do about it.

    Sounds strange...

Most dentists/ orthodontist don't really work for a practice as an employee (except for the corporates) but as a sole trader within the practice... Would you consider yourself a patient of the orthodontist or the practice?

Are you happy with treatment and progress so far? Why did the new orthodontist not like the progress so far??

Are these clinicians on the specialist ortho register??

Not a great position to be put in....

Both names are on the specialist ortho register.
i do not know what i would consider myself at this stage. when i was making enquires about getting orthodontic treatment i aked for the 'head' orthodontist i.e the person whos name the practice is trading under (and the person who was recommended to me by many former parients). I was informed that he had a full schedule of patients but his 'associate orthodontist' at the practice would deal with me and he would 'oversee' the treatment.I never met the 'head man' until his 'associate' disappeared, almost two years later. I am happy with the treatment to the extent that my teeth and bite have dramatically improved compapred to how they were. However, I am not a professional in the field and what appears ok to me may not be ok at all. Foe example i thought all was ok until the new ortho had a look and seemed shocked and annoyed. The new ortho pointed out flaws in my bite that needed to be corrected and told me that the treatment would take longer a result. Also, the quality of treatment and professionalism has improved since I changed orthodontists, making me doubt the original one.
