Looking at changing my car, these 2 are in the runnin at the moment. Lookin at a 05 Citroen C4 or a 04 VW Polo. Both are around the same price and same milage. Would anyone have any opinion or preference on either of these and why.

    Cheers in advance.

If its 1 liter Polo, I'd go for C4. If its bigger engine on Polo then it depends on what you are looking for: comfort and bells and whistles or joys of driving. C4 is comfortable, full of gadgets and quite roomy, but Polo with bigger engine probably be be better from driver's point of view (I only drove 1 liter Polo though and didn't like it at all, too slow).

    Its a 1.2 litre Polo. 1.4 litre C4.

C4 every time...VWs are a joyless place to be, the C4 is nicer to look at, better on fuel if I remember correctly, and higher spec as standard.

Then they would be about the same in terms of dynamics (only guessing though) but C4 is bigger. Both are not bulletproof, but there more VW mechanics around than Citroen ones and generally french cars are trickier to fix (especially when it comes to electrics).

There is always someone on these threads who trots out the line about French electrics.I have had my C4 for 5 years now,and it has given me no trouble. As for my wife's newer VAG manufactured Fabia well it has had numerous electrical and suspension problems.

Please note, I have not said those electrics giving more troubles, I said they are more difficult to fix. That is because french have their own vision on car design, its not better or worse its just different and not every mechanic is used to it.
All the cars are giving troubles, after 15 years in motor industry I would not recommend to buy any car if 100% reliability is your concern :D.

Aye and so do ford, rover, volvo and fiat have their own spin on design.

The old days that it was almost a given that a german car would be reliable is long gone unfortunately.

There is a wide variety of similar type cars out there for similar money, why limit yourself to those two?
