    All set up now.

There is no way to log into this device, at least, not that I can find. Kinda wondering how I'm going to flash this thing once SamKnows are done with it.

Heres a pic of the Whitebox hugging my current TL-WR1043ND.

And, luckily enough, and as promised, it's not affecting my speed in the slightest.

I originally thought the same myself.

But, Cable availability is very limited in Ireland compared to DSL. If the survey targets the same number of Cable users in proportion to DSL users, it'll be easy to see that Cable is what's skewing the national results. Therefore, it will be obvious from the results that DSL in Ireland is an absolute joke. It's a great comparison really.

TL-WR741ND Just everything was loose in the Box like it had being used before and two A4 page crude setup guide. Free Router in two years though!

Funny, I thought the same when i opened mine, even the box just seemed a bit roughed up.

I didn't think it was a refurb, just poorly boxed OEM.

    Hi,

I've also got an email saying a box will be sent in the next few days. I've notice that they are sending different models, ones with 10/100 LAN ports, others with Gigabit.

Being with UPC 25mb be enough to get the later? Just curious. Thanks for any input!

Can't say for sure yet. Personally, I imagine you'll get the lower-end model.

Guys just thought of something about my setup.

I have the Modem --> Router with the router just being a modem and th router handling everything including connecting to Vodafone with username and password.

Will the tp link box connect to the router or what? I need my gigabit ports for my NAS and other toys.

    Will it go modem--> router--> tp-link

It's set up as a bridge anyway. Just connect it modem->whitebox->router.

Thanks roast. I guess I have to wait and see, but wouldn't mind bridging the cisco box. I'll post my results soon!

At first it made every page slow to a crawl but I switched both off and back on again and it seems faster than before.

thats the same white box i received.
they will email you over the next 24 hours telling you that you are connected.
if you don't receive the email, then assume something is not connected correctly :(

    'Irish broadband worse than Vietnam'
    Thursday, December 08 12:21:12
Ireland's broadband performance is worse than Vietnam, Moldova and Mongolia with this country slipping to 53rd place in the world with an average download speed of 7.86 Mbps, according to consumer pressure group, IrelandOffLine.

Ireland is the fifth worst in Europe for under-performance against service promise and the third most expensive in Europe in the service cost per Megabit per second.

anyone else receiving the monthly report from SamKnows?

by all accounts its nice to be able to see how reliable your connection is over an extended period - you can see at least if you're getting what you've paid for.

For example, I'm paying for 2 MB download and getting
    Average 1.87Mbps
    Min 0.95Mbps 8pm, Sun 4th Dec
    Max 1.99Mbps 1am, Sun 4th Dec

upload, I pay for 0.5MB but getting
    Average 0.53Mbps
    Min 0.45Mbps 8pm, Sat 3rd Dec
    Max 0.67Mbps 1pm, Sun 11th Dec

    Latency
    Average 31.45ms
    Min 9.82ms 5am, Sun 11th Dec
    Max 170.42ms 4pm, Tue 27th Dec

    Packet Loss
    Average 0.13%
    Min 0.00% 2am, Thu 22nd Dec
    Max 41.68% 2am, Sat 10th Dec

Got my box at start of Dec, between one thing and another only got it connected up about a week ago.

Overall looking good - was a bit concerned to see packed loss rearing its head, but from what you guys have reported its not unheard of.

Interesting to see how it goes over the coming weeks/months.

    Downstream Throughput - 97.51Mbps Average
    Upstream Throughput - 6.92Mbps Average
    Latency - 20.64ms Average
    Packet Loss - 0.01% Average
