Question on injections

I got a pup there when it was 11 weeks old. The man I bought it off told me it has had all it's injections and just needed the parvo injection at week 12, although for some reason he said he never gave it too any off his other dogs. So I didn't think much off it until this week, I never heard of the exact names for the various vaccinations, but I Googled this one just too see what/try to make out what this guy ment by he should be alright without the injection.

I have discovered that it's pretty contagious for pups and because I had not looked into it, I have brought it out for about 10 walks since we got him.

Now I don't think he has got anything, but what will I do? He obviously needs this injection, but can I just get it on it's own ?

    Any advise ?

If he didn't give you a proper vaccination card from a vets I'd be getting ALL the pups injections again, from a qualified vet. It's the only way to guarantee that your pup will be immune to every thing a dog can pick up.

Was just going to post to update this, I am going to be getting the whole thing done again from scratch. I was off the phone to the guy I bought it off, and he said he was not vaccinated for prarvovirus, which is worring for me considering I had him out thinking he was all good to go. And that everything else should be good.

On the phone to the vet and she said that I should try get a card, which I can't so I am just going to go get the whole thing done again. I'm really worried that he might have caught something, hopefully he didn't and he has not shown any of the signs that he has.

I forgot to ask the girl how much it was , has anyone got a idea of the cost of vaccination?

Our pup had parvo. He had been found wandering when he was around 12weeks so had no injections. Luckily he survived it but it was touch and go for a while. Also cost us €500 in vet bills and we had only had him a week!

So def get all the vaccinations from scratch just to be sure.

Whatever you don, do not delay any longer. A trip to the vets tomorrow, and as January has said, get all injections done!!

I am going tomorrow, good job I looked a bit deeper into his vaccinations. Which in fairness sound very shady so the right thing is too start all over.

Just hope he didn't catch anything, only have the little fella a week and he is the spit of our old dog. Who we got put to sleep a month ago to this day. I couldn't bare to lose another one. But saying that he seems himself and happy :)

was €50 in our vets for both vaccinations. Paid on the first visit and second was free. If you want to get them microcipped I would suggest doing this along with vaccines. We got it done the same time as the second vaccine and it cost €20.

I got charged €35 for first round and will be €35 for second round too... this was in a vet in Finglas... it changes from place to place.

Your doing the right thing for yourself and your dog by getting them done, some breeders will say they have them done but ask for a vaccination card and they will usually fail to produce, no vaccination card = no proof, which means a boarding kennels will refuse to take them and you could course end up with a very sick dog. If the breeder lied to you about this then he may have lied about other things as well, i.e. worming and such so consider this as well.

As for cost if varies from Vet to Vet, I got mine done for €35, had to pay at the first visit and the booster was free. But I think he is an exception.

Blue Cross by the sounds of it. The Blue Cross is around tomorrow, but the question is Blue Cross or Vet. And bring back the memory's of my last dog, which was put down in the van.

Thanks for the advise everyone many thanks.

    O that's just terrible : (
I have a big pot of never used puppy worming stuff ( liquid) ; I bought if for my dog when she was a pup but she caught parvo so I never used it on her cos she was so sick. If you want it you're welcome to it for free: PM me your address and I vcan post it to you.

BTW I'd not panic; if your puppy had parvo you would know all about it mediately so you re probably lucky! Yours doing absolutely the right thing having him vac all over again; I'd say the dealer was chancing his arm.(lying through his teeth)

If you do bring your pup to the vets or the blue cross absolutely do NOT let it mix or be petted or be let on the path before or after it's had it's shots while you wait ; the places are riddled with sick and infectious dogs and other non- vaced pups, and you absolutely don't want to get it on the home run : (

Lucky pup! Best of luck & fun with it : )

Puppies need primary 2 vaccinations - usually given 2/3 weeks apart. These cover the pup from lots of infections (including Parvo). Many vets do a "puppy pack" type arrangement - where there is a deal if you get all the vaccinations, wormers and other bits done with them, it's usually a really good deal so ringing around to see if you could get a deal would be a good idea!

Until your puppy is totally covered (that is, about 10 days after their second vaccination) be really careful about it coming into contact with other dogs and people - it could pick up an infection, worms etc. If you don't think your puppy is wormed, do it as soon as you can. Young pups can really be affected by a worm burden and it's very easy to avoid!

What breed of puppy is he? (just curious!)

Take the leap and bring him/her to the Blue Cross if you genuinely cannot afford to bring him/her to the vet. It will bring back memories, but you'll be ok

Glad you went to vet. The fact that he said it was vaccinated but not for parvo set off alarm bells in my head as the combo vaccines (ie 7 in 1) already have parvo in them, so I'd wonder if he really was vaccinated. Never ever trust a breeder who can't give documentation about vaccines, it's just too risky. Vaccinating is much cheaper than treating for parvo/lepto etc.
    Gorgeous pup!

Why do puppy breeders not hold onto pups until they are fully vaccinated?

I have to admit If I got a dog or cat from a breeder that said they did it themselves I would get them re done at the vets even if I was given a vax card.

Why do puppy breeders not hold onto pups until they are fully vaccinated?

There a fine line around the age a puppy would go to its new home and getting it vaccinated re socialisation. Puppies are really impressionable up to about 12/16 weeks and the longer it has during this time getting used to household life, away from its safe zone (ie. around where it was born and around its mother and siblings) often the better. A good breeder will not let their pups go under 8 weeks (and give first vaccination) but the puppy need exposure to a million and one different things so become a "good" pet, which the new owner would need to do (as the puppy will be spending the rest of their lives with them, living their lifestyle).

Some breeders do keep pups longer, which is fine as long as they make a massive effort to socialise the puppy and expose it, in a positive way, to as many new and interesting things as possible. Of course, if either the breeder or the owner end up not bothering, exposing the puppy to scary things, not exposing the puppy to anything etc. etc. the puppy can become skittish and develop behavioural problems in later life (think puppy farming - puppy has no exposure to anything other than a pen and the puppies mother and siblings, taken away too early from its safe environment to someone who hasn't a clue what they are doing and doesn't bother helping the puppy along the way and then everyone wondering why they have a nightmare of a dog when puppy gets older who is aggressive/fearful/hard to train... the list goes on).
