EDIT=NM - GAMESTOP ARE COVERING IT

    just got E74

    Info-
Its a second hand 20gb console i bought a few months ago from gamestop henry street (refurbished) for 100.
As far as i remember I think i got a 1 month warrenty which is gone now

It has 2006 written on the back, guessing thats production date.

    Questions..

Can i get gamestop to fix it or microsoft (for free)

Will i need the receipt...dunno where i put it...but wont gamestop have the serial number in their computer?

    Would appreciate any other info

    Thanks

You could try to go back to where you bought it and chance your arm. But without a receipt its basically your word against theirs. As far as I know only the barcode is scanned and logged not the finer details of each machine. They'd need a datacenter the size of Ireland for storing all that information! (Although I could be wrong......).

Give MS a buzz and get them to quote you a price first off.

Thanks chin, but i just found receipt and phoned gamestop...apparently its 3 month warrenty...so..it,ll be replaced for free soon/

    :):):)

Now.....ill dream of them somehow mistakenly giving me a Gears of war 3 console instead...hehehehe.....

Second hand consoles are a bit finicky as the warranty is only supposed to cover the first owner, so if the console has been registered already then you might run into problems.

Id say call Xbox support but dont be surprised if you have to pay.

thanks but gamestoip covers it..and if i was going to repair it...id just go on youtube...and buy a heat gun....

You'd be look if the heatgun fix lasts you a couple of months, it does more harm than good. Some people on that thread actually use state of the art repair equipement which is more than I can say for Gamestop.

Edit: just seen your edit, good luck with that :D

What else could you do instead of the heatgun trick....

completly remove and re-install the chip?

    or actually replace it entirely?

    wouldnt that be very expensive?

    yup pretty much like that

The heatgun trick like justryan said is a trick
It does more damage than good
    And shouldnt be done.
Even if you get it to work it wont last anymore than 2-3 weeks.

A reflow on a rework station on the other hand when done right dosn't damage or warp the board.
And results in a much better lasting repair.
