Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Raised her from Day 1 as the cow died shortly after giving birth.

Will you breed her or what have you in mind?

She's a pet, halter trained etc. I am not a farmer. I have horses, chicken and now Fritzie the Shorthorn. Just wanted some opinion about her looks re showing maybe as a hobby for the small man?

Shorthorns are very niche, I'd be no judge of one!
Stick an AI straw in her and get her into production. She should bring a lovely Limx calf:)

Would the horns be an issue for showing, does anyone know?
They certainly would if she was going to the mart or for export, but I suspect that's not in the plan for this one. :D

Good point, Rovi, does anyone know re her horns? The vet told me about the mart etc when he did the test two weeks ago. Still laughing at him as she was haltered and tied in the yard and he looked at me as if I was mad because she wasn't in the crush. Not a bother to her, she didn't even flinch.

She is going nowhere, you are absolutely right ;).

well there was pictures from tullamore of Saler cattle with a traditional halter that had an iron ring that went over their horns. prob would depend on the society and show guidlines though

I've seen horned cattle at shows too.
Is she Reg PB Shorthorn or a commercial heifer?

No , I am involved in a couple of show societies and have been asked this on a couple of occasions,

my usual answer is if they can fit in the main gate, they can go in the ring

Thank you for all your replies and info.

She is purebred and reg'd. I like Shorthorns, not too big for my liking :D and very hardy.

I will enquire into shows so, is there a lower age limit for handlers? The small man handles her like a pro, obviously under adult supervision the whole time, including grooming, leading and feeding.

There are often classes in shows specifically for young handlers/breeders, often U14 or U12.
For example: Class 50 in the Beef Shorthorn at Tullamore this year was "Young handler of the year 2011"
