Howdy, Looking for the aforementioned. Something about 8' long and ideally somethin' I could attach a vice to. Would like to get somethin 2nd hand to save on the expense and it doesn't have to be purdy. Have searched donedeal and adverts.ie but nothin' much on offer. Any ideas?

a length of kitchen worktop makes a decent workbench, strudy enough to bolt a vice to and the surface is fairly tough

you might pick up a bit dead cheap on adverts, or try local builders merchants for offcuts or damaged stock.

Fairly easy to make frame to support this out of cheap timber and screws

then spend your hard earned on some decent tools, if you can avoid that GAS you are prone to:p

As above for a nice wipe clean working surface but to give it a bit of strength screw and glue a lenght of scaffolding plank under the front edge. Do the same on the back edge and it has a level base that can be put on a couple of tressels (or low builders bandstands) and taken down if you need the space or even taken outside or indoors if thats where you need a work bench.

    Buy a sheet of 8' x 4' 18mm Ply

Cut a 20" strip off for the work top
    leaving 8' x 28"
Cut your 2 end supports 19" x ? how high do you want the bench say 36"
Leaving 8' x 9" for a nice shelf above your bench. And also a 24" x 19" piece left over.
All for under €30. and only 4 cuts with the skill saw. :D
