Hello folks, looking for some directions on listed building and old occupied houses in Fingal

I am trying to put together a collection of images of listed buildings especially the oldest occupied houses in North county Dublin. I am starting with a house in Rush that was built in 1866 and then the first block built house in Rush. I hope I can then add a little bit of history to each image. Not sure how it will pan out but looking forward to having a go at it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Thanks LeoB

My place was built in the 1850's if that is of any interest. One of my neighbours is a local historian who has good info on the place. Let me know...

    Thanks Corsendonk and THB.

I am unsure of how I am going to approach this but have spoke to one person and they are happy to help me out with info on their home. Its quite a limited area but I hope to speak to someone in Fingal C.C next week and see what we can come up with. We have one ongoing subject at the moment, Harbours but feel it needs to broadened a little.

    Thanks

Leo - there's a house in Portrane (near the hospital entrance) that has been occupied by the Lynders family since 1700's.

Can you be a bit more specific? Is that on the Donabate side of gates or on way to Seaview?

There is interesting stuff in the links provided by Corsendonk. I didnt realise there were so many old houses in Rush. When I think of it now Im furious I didnt have a camera 30 years ago when I was cycling around Rush.

It's about 50 meters on the Donabate side of the hospital gates. It's known as "The Farm" and has a plaque with that name. It was extensively refurbished a few years ago and carefully scrutinised by FCC during the work.

Thanks for that. Planning a trip to that area in next 2 weeks or so.

Leo, this link is to a house in Corduff, Lusk, listed as being built in 1790

sadly, since the occupier passed away, a few years ago, its fallen into disrepair, and the roof is about to fall in, perhaps you can get a record of its present state.

Close by is another listed house, built c. 1850

which has been restored recently and looks amazing.

    Good luck with your research.

Leo, this house was refurbished recently after being derelict for umpteen years, it was previously an RIC barracks, not sure about exact dates, but it's older than me anyway (30 :D ) Presently it's occupied, right next to the butchers on the main street.

Also locally is a thatched cottage just before you come into the village from the southside, it was occupied until a few years ago when there was a large drug seizure found in the outbuildings and seems empty since. There's even Ragworth growing through the thatch now, sad to see.

    Leo,

I think you should talk to Colm in the Fingal County Archives on Forster Way in Swords. He did a talk recently about big houses in Fingal at a day of lectures in Newbridge House.
