True it will be very interesting to see how they compare.

Am I right in saying the green area on the nose is the only area on the fuselage skin that is aluminium alloy and the rest composites? Why is this does anyone know?

The nose is likely to be constructed from aluminium but Airbus is currently running trade-off studies considering a one-piece carbon fibre structure. According to Gordon McConnell, A350 Chief Engineer, a carbon fibre structure would need titanium reinforcements for birdstrike protection, thus the aluminium structure is the best cost-wise.
    Wikipedia

Begs the question..why is the 787's nose fully carbon fibre?

Absolute fantastic flight and crew so friendly
Flight deck no problem and captain more than happy to chat

MD11 is such a nice machine to fly on
Beats an Airbus by miles in my opinion

can't agree with u... Up front the MD11 and L1011 are great, but down the back, the tail engine just creates too much noise and vibration.

I've flown on the DC9 (MD11), Boeing 727, BAC 1-11, Caravelle and one type whose designation escapes me over the (many) years. To the best of my memory, in none of them was the vibration or noise noticeably worse than on wing-mounted engined aircraft. In fact I've found the noisiest and shakiest to be turbo-prop engined a/c.

Sat down the back of a KLM MD-11 to Accra once, and it is noticeable compared to say, an A330, in my view.

The wingspan on the A350 is enormous, also westdub's photo's are awesome, the detail is astonishing. :)

I was standing beside these where they were parked in the phoenix park on the morning of the mas . loads of plain clothes gardai with uzis running around, but no one minded a daft teenager wandering around looking inside the choppers . Those were the days

Unfortunately there are no flyable Viscounts anywhere now. The last one/s were in the DRC, I think.

Is the Avro a museum exhibit or in some sort of isolation, Carvair?

    8595982122_4e4db22894_b.jpg

And if that's a retro scheme, nice!

I guess these were shot in MAN?

The RJX was the 'next generation' Bae146 that was launched round about 2000. 9/11 killed the program and the only prototype is parked up at MAN in the viewing area..

I remember that they tried to sell them to us, but before discussions got too advanced, they moved the sales office to Toulouse and from that point the urgency seemed to diminish, it was as if they were worried about the conflict of interest with the A320 family.

Dunno if I'm allowed to ask this here but I definitely didn't want to start a new thread.

Has anyone got any good wallpaper type pictures that I could use?
I was thinking of getting it printed on a mouse pad to be more precise, thought it was time I needed more aviation pictures on my stuff :)

The E-8C JSTARS (Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System) is a heavily modified Boeing 707 functioning as a battle management/command and control platform.

that looks like Flaps 50 for landing, so does this mean that these aircraft are only STAGE 2 Noise Certified?

    smurfjed

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,002 ✭✭✭EchoIndia

    As this is a military aircraft, I doubt there is any noise certification as such. From the photos, the engine nacelles are as per the original 707 design with no visible hush-kit modifications. There was a programme to re-engine these aircraft with JT-8D-219 engines but this seems to have been suspended, as explained here;
