A PSE Composites Green Coloured stock does me ;)
Makes the Rifle floated and shoot better

If the firearm was not camo'd by the factory, I would not attempt anything permanent, like paint. I don't think you'll ever be happy with the finish and the chances are you'll regret the choice.

As tack said, buying a new camo stock that is free floated is a good idea.

I would also recommend tape (camo form gun wrap). It's not permanent and does the job. I love blue steel and wood stocks. The tape helps protect both in the field.

He's right. That or ordinary tape and a bit of scrim.

Much cheaper than a fancy bouyant stock.

They are red-green colourblind, which is why they cant see the orange colour of the hats and jackets hunters in america wear
You dont want the sun reflecting off the barrel or scope like a mirror though. they'll spot that a mile away and pick up your movement.

What is the tape like to get off, does it leave any marks on the gun ?

That Tape is self adhering so it can be unwrapped easily.
Small amount of grime residue but nothing a wipe of a rag won't fix.

I replaced the tape when it was getting very worn and after I had been out in very heavy rain

I imagine there would be legal issues with handing a rifle over to a unlicensed individual for painting.
    Yes?

    Yes?

Not the stock AFAIK, only the Action. Unless the painter was also a RFD.

Most guys only paint the stock anyway

A R700 is bolt action IIRC. If I kept the bolt and mag could I hand it over? Or would I need to take the trigger assembly as well?

Yes a Remington 700 is one of the most famous Bolt Action Rifles there is.
you are getting into a grey area there in regards to removing parts to make it "safe to hand over to a third party", if you want black and white, then the answer is NO.

They are all considered components/parts. that only a RFD or Licensed person can have in their possession.

Anything you can't get mail order basically

I've seen that rifle up close and it's really nice. The paint gives it a kind of grippy feel which I liked.

Its a friend of mine that did it. He is offering a painting service through Hilltop now. He has a number of stocks up there showing off different camo patterns.
