Swollen pine doors

    Had the doors (interior) replaced 18 months ago. They're varnished three times. In the last two weeks some of them have become sticky. I am putting this down to humidity.

    Is it advisable to run a dehumidifier for a while, or will this damage the doors?

    Humidity has been crazy for the past while - around 95%. Personally, I wouldn't bother with a dehumidifier. You'd be as well off to open the windows as the air gets drier. That humidity (hopefully) was freakish and the wind is veering westerly which should get rid of that heavy moist air. The doors will shrink back in no time.

    Hi would agree with slowburner. Most people painting or varnishing doors no matter how many coats, only do so front and back of door. You should also paint top and bottom of door. nobody ever thinks of that, the door must be sealed all round which will siop 95% of the swelling. Moisture can get into the timber if not painted or varnished.
