Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is blogging creative writing?

    I recently started a blog.

Just random whitterings about my life and opinions on stuff. I try to be funny, it doesn't always work.

Does this fall into the category of creative writing?

I'm not writing fiction (though i do sometimes) but I am writing to entertain.

    What do you think?

    Definitely.

And the fact that you're writing so often will only improve your skill.

Yes, regular blogging takes a lot of creativity.

Really? I just throw up any old rubbish. No complaints so far.

    I used to do that.

But then I read somewhere that throwing stuff up on the blog like that is like sending a first draft of something to a publisher. So now I try and think about my posts for a day or so before writing them, and I think it has improved the quality of what I'm putting up.

Still a lot of work to be done but I think as long as I'm enjoying it that's okay.

I got my first non-family member/friend follower yesterday which I am unreasonably proud of myself about.

Yeah I did that too, but then I felt I was blogging too much and not writing enough fiction so I stopped but I think I might go back to blogging cause the fiction production didn't increase all that much.

Only went on it for a sec, but I see you've linked to Laurie Penny's blog. I love her! I'll have a look at your posts at some stage.

I would see blogging as more promotional - a chance to share your knowledge and your writing. But there is an overlap.

Funny you should bring this topic up, because my dad has actually started a blog recently, in which he solely puts up his own creations, be they poems or stories. So in this case, his blog is 100% creative writing.

Here it is, for anyone thats interested: http://jcstorylibrary.blogspot.com/

In the case of my blog, I write about work stuff so its purely opinion, step-by-step guides or industry news so I'd say mine is 0% creative! :p

And, in a related question - what do any of you think of the layout and photos I used for the header?

I decided to go with one post per page because I think it looks cleaner, and I took the three pictures in the banner with my phone.

Literally not one of my friends has commented on them, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing?
