Canteen Wifi

    Has anyone else noticed that the hotspot in the canteen is gone??

    It's been on and off for the past month.

    Now and then you'll probably see a connection called "AIT-WLAN-Test", so I can only assume they're still trying to sort out the new routers. Being AIT, who knows when they'll be finished setting things up.

    They are re-designing the wireless in the college to allow for more connections and faster data rates. It will contain many controlled access points, in theory the connection should allow for continuous roaming in throughout the main building as well as roaming throughout the engineering building. Another feature that is being discussed is a possible high speed wireless link between the main building and the engineering building so that their shall be internets outside covering the majority of the campus ... This system was already in place but it was a Masters project that was done last year. :)

    Was talking to one of the technicians during the week and mentioned it to him in passing ... He said that they are working on having a login system for students and staff on the WiFi network. Probably going to be student number and your moodle/college lan password in order for the college to monitor what people are looking up and make sure their is nothing naughty being done on their network ("Porn, Peer to Peer downloading of movies, games, music etc")
