Not very funny making jokes about a man who is very sick.

Oh lighten up people, it's only a joke........as if people here have never told a distasteful joke before about disasters etc.

This Siri ap looks very impressive, once it can handle Irish accents.

Feck the irish accent, can it handle the cork one? *imagines siri exploding*

nah seriously i wonder if the three network are kicking themselves ill bet money they assumed people would be buying out ip4 contracts by now to buy the new iphone!

its good, but not good enough (so far) to upgrade from the ip4!

Really? Is anyone gonna use siri?

If it works 100% of the time and localises well to Ireland, then maybe but it seems keyed into the likes of Open Table etc. who are massive in the US but non existant here (4 restaurants last I looked)

Voice recognition is very hit and miss, requires the crunching to be done in the cloud, so requires a data connection, is no use for roaming etc etc.

I am highly sceptical, but lets see.
Still, Scott has to talk to the machine slowly, like you would to a child or a foreign language speaker.

edit: that implies it will not be great with accents etc.

I'd imagine people who drive might find it very useful. Depends how well it works though.

Wow, not what I was expecting at all. It looks like its behind the curve before it launches...

If they insist on launching a new phone after 18 months, they should launch something spectacular...

Hahaha, Siri requires the iPhone 4S. Good luck iPhone 4 losers, you'll have to set your own alarms!

I like the idea of being able to speak your texts instead of typing.

in all fairness its just a rehash of the iphone4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭bytesize

Most of this is just software updates. And most of these updates are pure ripoff of other OS's innovations already available. I guess this is the year of Apple copying!

Why would people upgrade from 4 to this or even supposed 5? Do you change phones every year.

I'm a 3GS user and this will be a big step up.

Markets knew the demand was there. While Apple are rolling out the new iPhone, Android phones will be advancing while this phone will cause a stagnation.

They failed to move the market at all. Nobody is impressed with this new iPhone. Hopefully Apple realise this sooner rather than later. Unit sales will tell there own story.

It was the exact same with the iPad 2. Everyone was expecting a retina display and yadayadayada. Stocks dropped by a few percent during the announcement but then sky rocketed over the coming weeks. I guarantee you stock will bounce up tomorrow.

So it's now a Dual core processor, 8MP camera, no mention of memory in it yet.

Also, iOS 5 looks amazing. Don't know what people want. Noone said they were ever going to stick to their 12 month release cycle..

All I want is a release date and a price now! Will be a serious upgrade rom my 3G

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

    The HTC Sensation is another.

Sensation XE and XL out by the end of the month with Beats audio and bundled Beats headsets. That's not to mention the Nexus Prime.

I know it's too early to criticise Apple, but this feels like a big mistep. Their new fine is behind the curve before it's released.

    "call ..... mam"

    "calling dominos..."

    You cúnt....

How much does everyone expect the iPhone 4 will drop by?

Love my galaxy S2, was kindof hoping this would blow me away today but meh, its still behind. Def keeping the S2 now, and by the time the IP5 comes out no doubt Samsung will have something better out... Apple fcuked up here today, 18 months wait for the fanboys to release a phone the IP4 should have been in the first place.

Compare an IP4's screen to the Galaxy's, for that one reason alone it shíts all over the iPhone. There are many other factors but for me thats the main one.

I've been on the iphone two year cycle... which this fits perfectly into. By the time my two year contract is up early next year the real iphone5 will be released.

This 4s release is just like the 3gs release.

Hey, RAM ??? I didnt see anything mentioned about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭Dublinstiofán

The only thing that would make me buy it now is if its between €300 and €500 which is very unlikely.

And thats only because i'm phoneless, and its what i will spend on a device anyway.

Don;t forget the 520 euro price tag... ouch

3 upped the price, still cheaper than o2 and Voda but upped none the same, 8mp 16GB might come in at the 32GB 5mp price.

Sure the S3 will be out before the iP5. Apple will have to rely on software to try and keep up.

I can see why Apple started to sue Samsung now, they had nothing to fight the S2 head on so they tried to get it banned instead, and they did in a few countries.

    ANOTHER PHONE?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

They better make the iphone 5 amazing because this certainly isn't worth the wait. It could be like the 3G to 3Gs upgrade path again. Make iOS run dog slow on the previous phone.

They've kept the 3gs, so chances of a 5 today are pretty much done.

Still selling the 3GS. 16GB on the 4 also for sale. They're all over the fuking shop on this one.
