We ought to organise a demo outside, loads of placards with €408,000 written all over the place with no subtlety whatsoever. "We should be out on the streets Joe!".

I'd say that book will be a mix of Angelas Ashes and The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Whats with the cover photo? Is he letting one off? :pac:

EDIT: Heres the blurb from the dust jacket: vomit inducing stuff.....
Dignity was our most valuable possession." Joe Duffy is a household name in Ireland. As the presenter of RTE Radio One's "Liveline" programme, he takes the pulse of the Irish nation every day, often delving into highly controversial topics. Whenever somebody wants to get something off their chest, the advice is often: "Talk to Joe". Writing with raw honesty, Joe here recounts his difficult upbringing in working-class Ballyfermot. He paints a poignant, heart-breaking picture of family life with a hard-drinking father and hard-working mother. Aspirations for a better life were rarely encouraged in Ballyfermot. Despite this, Joe was determined to escape to a different future. He became one of the first from his area to enter the hallowed halls of Trinity College Dublin, where he developed a strong sense of social justice, eventually becoming President of the Union of Students in Ireland, leading protests on campus highlighting access to education and spending two weeks in Mountjoy Jail as a result

    What a load of rubbish

Indeed, its actually grossly insulting to anyone from Ballyfermot, look at the Fureys, they made something out of themselves and they came from a worse situation than him.

Its insulting to anyone who scrimped and saved to send their kids to school in decent clothes and with something to eat to say that that they never aspired that their kids would be succesful in life. There are loads of people who got on very well in life who came from the Coolocks, Ballyfermots and Tallaghts of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and indeed small towns of Ireland that don't feel the need to blow their trumpets off about it.

bloody hell this sucks. What does she want? The college at the end of her garden and a money tree?

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 14,121 Mod ✭✭✭✭pc7

I'm sorry her grant was cut, but that's just how things are. Lots of people have to put themselves through college, do it at night, work etc. Its just life. Lots of people in her position just have to work and study at night or wait until the kids are grown.
