You'd swear Bertie Aherne left of his own free will. He didn't,it's not like he made some kind of astute move. He would have held on if he could he is that deluded. Cowen and Lenihan componded the problems created by Aherne and McCreevy. Cowen was promoted way beyond his competence. Not forgeting his tenure as Minsiter of Finance himself. If he inherited the problem he inherited it from himself which ties in with how he won his seat in the Dail in the first place and now his brother inherited the seat from him; courtesy of the good people of Laois/Offaly.

Absolutely scary the amount of FF lurkers in the background of Irish society. I despair for this country and its idiotic electorate, I really do...

I was thinking the same thing. Classic liveline. Lots of FF chickens coming home to roost!:D
It is a terrifying prospect though, that these people will vote FF in the very next election

We should have one of the biggest fishing industries in the world

The real joke is that our fleet only landed 20% of the stock landed from our territorial waters.

The discarding of already caught and mostly dead fish back into the sea to satisfy quotas is morally wrong....and has nothing to do with moeny or the livlihoods of fishermen.

Fishermen can thank the agricultural lobby for the ridiculous rules that they have to follow (previous governments gave away fishing benefits to get more concessions from the EU for farmers).

They were our waters...we signed them over for some magic beans and a few roads.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

But sure if foreign trawlers are landing the bass already that's depleting our stocks much more than domestic trawlers would and the angling sector still sufffer...

Bass observe imaginary borders? Smart fish.

[edit] I'm obviously the only one that's listening :pac:

    Local Bass

Yeah lets ditch our net trawling and convert to baited lines

During the libyan turmoil the Spaniards and Itaians used the cover to go out and fish libyan territorial waters against the agreements for endangered blue fin tuna...they're no better than somali pirates that lot.
Iceland had the right idea in the 70's...
