    "How is your dad today?"

How the fup do you think he is Joe? Having a party? Seriously?

To be fair it's a rhetorical question, asked as much out of concern for the son he's talking to as for the father.
If he didn;t ask it would be more out of place I think...he's managed to not take an ad break either which is highly unusual for liveline.

I think it is totally inappropriate to have these people on the radio so soon after their loss. Answering questions and platitudes from Joe.
    It's just not right.

You know if I was in this poor guy's position I'd be hoping some of these people he's blaming tried to take some sort of legal action, if only to highlight the issue further.
Last thing on my mind would be the threat of a lawsuit or it costing me...
He's angry and he has every right to be...

Has anyone mentioned how the train driver is doing yet?

Normally I'd agree, but the second contributor mailed Duffy on tuesday about the woman... then before the week is out, this happens. The son obviously wants to come on and talk about it...in his position so would I.
In the face of an event like this, other things fall by the wayside.

The issue of suicide stretches a lot further than this one story...but it is pertinent and poigniant...normally the cynic in me would say Duffy is making hay out of this, but I think the issue is bigger than him or his ego.

Jaysus I thought for a second that woman was ringing in to complain to the chap about the train being late..

Well the sister of the lady did show concern for the train driver.

The second caller did... or at the very least said that it must be terrible for him/her too.

Admissions stopped everywhere because Budgets need to be protected so as that the terms of the Crook Perk Agreement can be met

I see what you're saying Wertz but this is a radio show where someone's misery and loss is being brodcast live for prurient reasons. I'm not sure that guy is thinking straight and should be protected from himself. To hear Joe's concern whether real or otherwise is nauseating to be honest.
Now we have people on swapping tragic stories. I'm just not sure this is the forum for it.

the thing is if someone really wants to end their own life they will find a way,no amount of meds or help will stop them.

maybe i'm completely in the wrong but if he's so concerned about the topic, he'll suspend his crappy book review and top 10 moments of the year countdown next week and come back to this and really try to highlight it further but he wont.

I have a family member currently having mental health issues, the public hospital couldn't accommodate them and are now paying for care in a private hospital at over 500 euro a night. We know we are lucky that they are paying this but every 2nd day they keep saying they are going to send them back to the first hospital as the budget for such cases in running low. It just seems to be a crazy system.

this vortex of negativity needs to be smashed

I think a programme more in the line of Nationwide is required

the whineline is contributing to the problems... imo

Kind words from the HSE... straight from their well paid PR company no doubt and no comment can be made on specfic cases...going forward in the current climate.

    Oh f*ck right off tbh.

Is anyone else feeling mentally drained after listening to Liveline this week? Don't think I can listen to this programme for much longer. It's as bad as the care homes abuse week.

The hard hitting programme that specialises in interviewing Tidy Towns organising twerps and other local busybodies? OK.

Where or when is the right forum though?

You''ll know I'm no fan of Duffy and his agenda, but I think that Liveline is a forum for such drastic topics as this.

I think the son is thinking straight...grief affects different people in different ways...right now he has anger against the different authorities tasked with the care and wellbeing of his mother...it's one case, that is just after coming to light that is one of who knows how many.

If liveline isn't the right forum then we badly need something that is...

So trying to improve the appearance of your town makes you a twerp does it? Better than sitting on your hole and complaining about it on the internet.
