our PAYE taxes pay for the largest community employment sceme in Irish history - it's called the Public Sector. A bunch of low skilled unaccountable gombeens who would struggle to find a job elsewhere.

2nd man talking sense is given short shrift. Typical, he wasn't on-message so had to go. Joe will re-educate that researcher later.

This charge is just covering for the spiraling costs of the Dublin Fire Service. Dublin Fire Brigade does it own thing, they have been asked to reduce costs but each year they send the 4 Dublin Councils increased service bills, this in a recession! The moment anything happens the Fire Brigade runs to the media to scream about possible deaths.

The UK Fire Service sent over some experts free of charge to look at the Dublin Fire Service last year with a view to look at were costs could be reduced and efficiency could be improved. As yet nothing has happened as the Dublin Fire Service stalled at every recommendation. Public servants don't you love them.

Ring in and throw the cat amongst the pigeons

Whatever you do Joe make sure to alarm and stoke up the fear.
I think Joe is so out of touch he genuinely doesn't realise the state the country is in. Everyone in the public service and semi-state is 'wonderful' according to Joe. However the reality is we are operating a 20 billion deficit even if there was no bondholders and bank guarantees? People like you Joe are paid too much while services are cut and charges are imposed. Added to that as someone said earlier all of these things were free years ago but income tax was at 60% and higher. I remember my father having to pay that.

I reckon if you went on liveline and said the words "tv licence" Joe would panic more than if you used the word "cúnt".

He always mentions a long list of charges that we have to pay, but never includes tv licence

Irish fire service top heavy with management. Loads of shiny new cars outside my local permanently-manned fire station testify to this.
Ireland, with a population 4.1 million, has 29 CFOs. Scotland, with a population of 5.1 million, has just eight.
Chief fire officers earn between €78,000 and €95,000, "but many take home well into six figures when allowances of as much as €30,000 are added", our source said. Then there are 82 senior assistant CFOs earning €73,000-€87,117.
"We have the most supervised fire service in the world," says John Kidd of the IFESA, "Yet there are cuts in budgets for training and frontline positions are not being filled.
"In Co Offaly three part-time fire stations closed in order to save €100,000, yet there are seven assistant CFOs earning close to €100,000 each in the Laois-Offaly area."
Mr Kidd says that €1 in every €4 in the fire service is spent on management.
