anyone hear pat rabbit on newtalk this morning say how rte's stars were fantastic and were the first to take a paycut of 30%. what was joe on before. Id say theres about much chance of this being discussed as there is on bon jovi ringing in

Didnt hear it but we were told in 2008 or 09 at the height of the redundancies in the private sector that the top earners in RTE would be taking a 10% wage cut that year, you might remember Gerry Ryan saying he was above this and would not take a cut.

Joe often spouted on about it, him feeling the pain too. Fair enough until we found out a couple of months ago that his wages dropped from €408,000 in 2008 to €389,000 in 2010, a drop of only 4.5%, nowhere near 10%. The average pensioner on a state only pension took a percentage cut of more than that, so I'll believe 30% when I see it.

Either way its still far too much, in the private media sector in Ireland they would get nowhere near the wages they are on at the moment.

I missed it but I would say Joe would point out he does not get a salary and is in fact a contractor(which might mean he didn't get no 30% pay cut). Might be an interesting FOI request.

We are permanently told that it was the "highest earners", if that doesn't include Duffy then its word twisting of the highest order.

I'm not sure you can get their wages on a FOI request, they often count "commercial sensitivity" as the reason for delaying the wage announcement by 2 years, the press release is usually around November each year.

Pat Rabbittes' proposal to combine the TV Licence with the Household Charge might see Joe do an about-turn on his earlier opposition to the HC. Wonder if he'll give it a mention today?

Always felt Derek Davis was better interviewer ......

I really enjoyed when Joe was on leave and Derek covered the slot....

No shortage of really good radio interviewers out there in local radio land..

Does anyone remember a band called Skid Row? They had a hit in the late 80s I think. It was one of those acoustic heavy metal jobs that were popular at the time(eg. Patience by Guns and Roses).
I don't recall Brush kicking up a fuss at the time.

Brush gives an interview about his relationship with Phil Lynott

Great documentary what Public Service Broadcasting is all about, wonder if the Liveline is now open for a discussion about the licence fee and the new plans for it?

See how I linked that up all nice like!

There seems to be some new 'broadcasting' tax coming in. I wonder if this will get discussed?

Nah, that's a topic of national importance that affects everyone. Joe won't touch it with a barge pole.

And anyway, hasn't he got plenty of pet topics to entertain the (geriatric) listenership...

Sure, anything to deflect attention away from anything topical and important.

I sense a Liveline researcher dialling Wendy as we speak...

I would gladly take a paycut of 30% (on income of €800,000.00 Pat Kenny)
Brian Dobson is on some astronomical salary I think.

Hasn't he also a PR company that work for RTE, jobs for the boys :mad:
You could hear Ivan grinding his teeth in the background

And him on his state pension(s):mad:

Thats another annoyance I have. Only the highest earners, but how many so called "low earners" are there that are surplus to requirements? Think of how many researchers and camera operators, boom specialists, aides, make-up technicians etc etc there are. There must be hundreds of people getting a cut of the action.

Auditor:"And what do you do little man?"
RTE lackey:"I'm a public relations media consultant"
    Auditor:"And what do you earn"
RTE lackey:"75,000 a year plus bonus"
Auditor:"And what do you mostly do"
RTE lackey:"I read the tweets and tweet back"
    Auditor:"For all of RTE?"
RTE lackey:"Dont be silly, just for joe and for Mary Kennedy on drivetime"

I would like to see a comparison between the wages paid in RTE & TV3
    for the same jobs

I think the most sickening thing about Duffy is that when it was put to him (at 2:16 in the video above) that the wages were very high in RTE, he proclaimed "it's not for me to judge what the appropriate salary should be"... That's funny Joe cos you've certainly felt that it's within your remit to judge TDs, Presidents and Senators wages... all of whom earn LESS than you, mind... as well as him judging the pensions given out to ex politicians.. He's such a hypocrite..

I reckon the reason that soooo many liveline shows are about the public service is because the producers of liveline reckon that they can talk freely about other State bodies with little chance of being sued.. as opposed to private companies.
