For a second there I was scared sh1tless this caller was going to be against the cuts.

It seems that Joe is against the cuts though. What a hypocrite.

I dont mind people getting that payment if they actually deserve it

but i would say many dont

Who deserves a communion allowance? Its a complete joke of a payout that should be scrapped altogether.

Joe "some" milk all the grants, the funeral grant, there is even a diet allowance grant type thing. All of these will be abused by some and then ruin it for those who really could do with it. That's life outside of a 400k salary Joe.

Our Entitlements culture had a provision for people to get money for Communions....

Why weren't the Catholic Chuch subsidising them? (Well that answers itself, Bertie probably brought it in), anyway it's their circus, let the Church pay for the bouncy castles and booze ups.

Oh fcuk, The Leeddle peeple" good man Joe, bear down on the sensible caller time

'You can't bring kids into a Pub'

That is just not true, Joe.

    Not in the daytime.

Hang on - people get money to celebrate their First Communion? What for? Last time I checked the Communion as an event involves a mass and that's it. Anything else is an additional expense that's entirely optional...

Joe:"Maybe the government shouldn't give any money to support a sacrement"

    No they shouldn't.

SocWel gives money for a religious service? I thought the state was divorcing itself from the church?

Re. dresses etc., when I were a small lad in a foreign country the parents hired monks habits (small ones) for the boys and nuns habits for the girls. Cheap and not stuffing up wardrobes. This hundreds on fancy threads is madness.

Well, It is Groundhog day. :D
Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2 in the United States and Canada. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day then spring will come early. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.[1]
