He said, almost verbatim: "if your parents are engineers or mathematicians then there's a good chance you'll be a bit nerdy or have aspergers or be a bit of a geek".

So basically being socially awkward is a medical condition.

In fairness, he is a person with Aspergers, not an "expert" in the condition, so it's kinda unfair to pick apart what he is saying.

Indeed... but Joe and his researchers had him on the show as a first hand, experiencing it, expert.

Okay folks, certain offensive posts have been deleted and in an effort to keep order here, I'm asking that you please leave the discussion there with regard to autism, asperger syndrome and particularly mickydoomsux's denial of its existence and get back to talking about Liveline itself. If you want to continue to discuss learning disorders/disabilities, I'm sure you can find a much more appropriate forum to do it in. Thanks.

So, let me get this straight: we can discuss liveline, but not the subject of liveline- is that right?

    No, that's not right.

You have been asked not to continue this specific discussion regarding autism and aspergers syndrome on this thread as it's got the potential to take the thread off-topic and I've already had to delete enough offensive posts.

If you need further clarification on this, feel free to PM me, but otherwise please respect this request on the thread and stay on-topic.

    Ah come on, not again....
It was interesting and relevant the first time around, but it's been milked to death on the show at this stage.

He won't let it go until Tony Humphries comes on air. And then 'classic' radio will ensue with 20 mammies roaring at him for an hour.

Yep and I assume that TH is smart enough not to come on air. Therefore we have the equivalent of a argumentative thread on boards going round and round, no one getting anywhere so its locked.

She came on Liveline without reading the article? Could she not have even scanned it before going on national radio to debate the issue?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,718 ✭✭✭✭JonathanAnon

I think people are taking this far too seriously.. The contradiction in what this woman says is that she calls what he says "twaddle" and still gives all her time and emotion to trying to debunk him... It kind of reminds me of that picture
