Here's nother telling one...any council property (usually social housing) I worked on in the last 15 yrs were concrete masonry...the councils (at least in Louth/Meath) didn't go for timber frame for reason of longevity and fire safety.

bascially encasing a wood frame in bricks, plaster and insulation is like living in a kiln if a fire takes hold...add gas central heating and it's a disaster waiting to happen if thins aren't done by the bewk.

lads.... next you wont be able to get homeowners/ fire policies on wood frame houses or youll need a cert to prove masonary construction.

This is a riveting, deeply felt and fascinating memoir which goes behind the public face of Joe Duffy to reveal a complex, passionate man.

Pretty sure that's the first time the words "Joe" and "labia" have appeared in the same sentence.

I disagree with this guy (can't speak for Dublin) clerk of works on council sites were there from the day the foundations were laid to the last lightbulb was screwed in, to make sure things were done to spec...perhaps that changed as things went batsh*t crazy in latter years and corners were cut, but it's not in any council's interest to build housing stock that is sub standard and non compliant.
