New build wont start

Bro built his 1st pc and it wont boot

I have it atm and trying to figure whats up but drawing a blank.

i52500k
asus p8p67 pro 3.1
8gb XMS (not in manual as accepted but 1333 have yet to check updated online manual)
HD6950
Antec case
XMS 750 watt

he put it together and screen wouldnt turn on, at 1st glance i spotted 8 pin ATX wasnt plugged in, connected it. Now VGA and Boot device lighting up. Replaced 6950 with 4650 still nothing coming out.

It seems like its booting but no beeps and no screen, have PC here now and will replace part by part to identify whats causing the problem. i have i5/8gb/same mobo/6870

Anyone any ideas what could be causing it ?

Your gonna hate me but sometimes it is the most obvious suggestions which work so: Take out the CMOS battery for 30secs, put it back in and try again.
If the motherboard has a reset button try it.

Reseat graphics card, reseat RAM.

reseated everything, have yet to try his part in my pc and vice versa.

Reckon its the ram, its not on the supported list but dont see why not.

Try having just the motherboard and CPU (plus CPU fan) connected to the PSU and turn it on.
If you hear beeps then turn it off, add something else (Say a stick of RAM) and turn it on again, see which component is causing it to stop posting (beeping).

not all motherboards have an onboard speaker fitted so dont be surprised at no beeps.

make sure your ram is listed as compatible with that motherboard, I had thsi problem recently.

Ram/cpu works in my pc, put my ram and my gpu into his and same thing. VGA light on, mobo deaded

I think their should be a red/green LED by the RAM, is it there? It should be green if the RAM is alright, If not, Are you sure the RAM sticks are in the correct slots?
Apparently 'There is a little button by the ram and an LED by the ram thats on. If so push the Button until the LED goes out or turns green. That should detect your RAM.
Failing that take the ram out and put 1 stick back in in the slot nearest the CPU socket.

Also by VGA light, do you mean an LED indication on the motherboard?
Does your keyboard light up when you start the computer?
Also for sh!ts & giggles try removing the CMOS battery again for 5 mins.
*Edit* Even try putting a new CMOS battery into the motherboard.
*Edit Edit* Even try putting the graphics card into your second PCI-E slot.
*Edit Edit Edit!* Are you using HDMI or DVI to connect the monitor to the computer? Maybe try a different connector or monitor, some people fixed a similar issue by not using HDMI.
