Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How do I become a secondary teacher in Ireland?

    Hi,
    Im in my final year of a BA in NUI. I am now interested in taking it further and teaching history. Im not actually very sure on this stuff at all and havn't a clue how to become a teacher.

    I looked up the PGDE and I know although my final year in college is going quite well for me and I am expecting a 2/1 or 1/1 degree at the end of it, that in my 2nd year I didn't work very hard, and wont meet the grade point average. (Im in NUI Galway and my degree grade will be achieved from my final year results).

    Is there any other way to do a Hdip or whatever you need to do to become a qualified teacher without needing a high grade point average, anywhere in the country?

    All advice on this subject is welcome because I am well and truly clueless.

    You could do a little search on the forum and gets lots of info on this. Basically, apply for trinity (and maybe DCU) who do it on interview. Otherwise work very hard this year and apply next year.
    I would strongly advise talking to any principal about your prospects with only History before you do it though.
