Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New Laptop: Comparison

    Hi,

After many years good service my laptop has finally given up. I'm looking for a replacement that falls within my €400 or so budget, and have narrowed it down to these two machines:

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_200B5A_1127219.html

    http://powercity.ie/?action=laptopbacker&pcode=378920

As well as the usual requirements of browsing, etc, the laptop will be used extensively for college. The most onerous programmes it will have to run include AutoCAD and a few related rendering packages.

Could anyone advise me as to which would be the better option? Or as to whether another laptop would better suit my needs? Any advice would be welcome!

    Thanks in advance.

Both have Intel graphics chips, I doubt either will handle AutoCAD.
(and the Samsung is £500 sterling, slightly more than your €400 budget)

    Thank you for the reply.

I had the newest AutoCAD running on my significantly slower machine, which also had inferior Intel graphics chips, and so I don't think that should be a problem.

Also, I just rechecked the Samsung link - The price was £300 a few days ago! Maybe it was a mishap on their part... Anyway I think I'm left with just the Toshiba now.

Unless you're doing a lot of 3d modelling, AutoCAD isn't that graphics intensive afaik.
