Anyone that disputes that Sonnen is worthy of a shot based on his skills alone as well is sippin' some strange coolade.

He was and this was what he was talking about, big personalities getting shots and guys like him being left behind.

I feel sorry for him because I think he's earned it time and time again but he's just not an exciting fighter. Ariel Helwani asked Dana about it and Dana said it out straight, nobody looks forward to seeing Jon Fitch fight, he's a boring fighter and he needs to take that on board.

Yeah it's not really fair on him. He is far from an exciting fighter but he does enough to grind out wins and other fighters find it hard to beat him (apart from Hendricks!:D)

But he's in a tough situation....does he continue fighting (and usually winning) the way he has been, and play it safe but never get another title shot. Or does he go out and try something new to impress the UFC brass but risk losing and still not getting a title shot.

He definitely has got some serious talent. Nobody else has even came close to putting a beating on Silva like he did. He would definitely be worthy of a shot even without his trash talking.

Hr tried that last time out. He tried blocking punches with his chin!

Jones has superior striking and has an excellent wrestling background. Maybe he's not as decorated a wrestler as Sonnen but his wrestling background along with his striking skills, his size and reach and awkward style would be a nightmare for Sonnen.

JDS has some of the best hands in the UFC. His striking is superior to Sonnen. The only downfall he may have is in the wrestling department. But then as a brown belt (I think?) in bjj he'd be well able for Sonnen on the ground too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Dermighty

Yeah, I'm not saying Sonnen couldn't lose, just that he has a good chin and outstanding grappling.

I think either Jones or JDS would be a more interesting fight than Silva, as great as Silva is I hate watching him fight, he's boring, and has his head up his ass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,933 ✭✭✭Logical Fallacy

I don't see Chael going up in weight and winning a belt i have to say.

I'd rather see him hang on where he is, continue to work on his submissions game. Except for the submission of Stan his entire UFC run has been filled with decision wins...I'd like to see him becoming more prominent at finishing fights in the UFC before taking on guys who could end the fight with one cross or one elbow.

Chael is an interesting cat, beyond his strong showing against Silva where he was still unable to finish a fight he largely dominated, but all of a sudden he has people talking him up against Jones, who has completely destroyed 3 former champs in his weight class in a row, and JDS.

No wonder he was in real estate, the guy can sell a concept.

He is getting CM punk to walk him out for his next fight. Hope its only a joke but it appears on a good few mea sites.

    Some very strange comments lately.
I'm starting to lose interest in his interviews. His antics seem to be spiraling out from initially funny to down right strange.

As a fighter he's great though. I would really like to see him finish Bisping but I'd predict a decision win.

Obviously where Sonnen nicked the script of his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan from.

I think its usually pretty simple, if the focus of the interview is on an opponent who is not Anderson Silva he sounds pretty sincere and respectful.

Because calling out Anderson earns both of them bucketloads of cash (he even spoke about breaking records in that last interview). The reason I like Chael is that, while entertaining, he also seems a genuinely cool, humble, intelligent guy. Just a dude who likes to take the piss, mess and make a lot money doing so in the process. Is that not what we'd all love to be if we were in his spot, with his undeniable talent?

Yeah, i'd say Chael is great once you are not trying to buy a house off him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 599 ✭✭✭Ian Whelan

Yeah, i'd say Chael is great once you are not trying to buy a house off him.

I understood that he wasn't actually ripping off the purchaser of the house but was instead arranging a cash incentive to encourage the sale.

Yeah, that's what I understood too, that sorta thing happens daily here wit no bother, just that America are so anal about that sorta thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,615 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I thought it was organising the imaginary sales for the purposes of tax breaks and relief.

    Linky?

    Linky?

I don't have one, I just remember the news reports from the time. I remember that he was basically getting more money for the buyer from the mortgage company.

I think this explains it: http://www.lakeoswegoreview.com/news/story.php?story_id=129410490911120000

His segment from UFC Tonight explains Fighters and lying :pac:
"Fighters have recently seen it as their quasi-job to continually put out misinformation. They just refuse to answer a question head-on. You know there's a tremendous difference with what fighters say versus what they mean.

For example 'I don't want to leave it in the hands of the judges' means 'I didn't train to go three rounds.' Uh, 'I'm surrounded with a new team in camp' means 'all my old friends abandoned me.' Uh, 'I need to go to training camp to be in seclusion' means 'My wife and kids are driving me nuts.'

I don't understand why fighters don't just talk plainly. In my last fight, I took on a gentleman named Michael Bisping. He hit me very hard and it hurt...a lot. People are shocked that I would admit that. Because they're all so used to lying. Well, guess what? If a guy hits you hard and it hurts, is your ego so small that you can't pay him a compliment? Is your ego so fragile that you can't say 'Look, I had my bell rung in the middle of a fistfight?' It kind of seems like a normal thing to happen, to me.

I expect to be hit hard, I expect to be kick hard. I don't need to hide from those things. Let's be objective, let's look at things head on and try to figure out what happened. If he threw a great punch, maybe I can break down the video and learn how to throw it myself. If he threw a bad punch and it hurt, maybe I need to learn how to get out of the way. But I don't need to come to the media and lie"

    :D:D

    @mayhemmiller
Jason Mayhem Miller Chael berating someone on their test level is like me making fun of someone's bad haircut

    @sonnench
chael sonnen MayHem: Due to time constraints I am currently confining my Twitter wars to active, relevant, fighters ONLY. Buy a T-shirt on your way out.

I wonder if Mayhem is looking to start a twitter war to get a fight with Sonnen. Not that he'd deserve one after his last performance.

Miller ain't in the same league as Sonnen, his cardio is rubbish and with Sonnen's non-stop pressure he would be toast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,945 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

So Miller wants a title shot then? Ain't gonna happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

    I have to agree.
Miller wouldn't stand a chance against Sonnen. He's not even near top 10.
He can talk all he wants but if he wants Sonnen he'll have to prove himself in the cage rather than on Twitter.
A back and forth Twitter war between those two would be great though!

@sonnench don't worry-you're a beatdown away from obscurity. I'll be happy to beat your head in-that's if it's not still on a pike in Rio

Seriously, what planet is this kid living on? Sonnen would end what's left of his career...

He has to be trying to talk his way into a big money fight. There's no way he can actually believe he can beat Sonnen. He must be looking for some retirement money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Shazbot

Sonnen beat Miller before and it would probably go the same way a second time. Miller would have a chance though.Miller's BJJ is good enough to catch a sloppy Sonnen.

I think people are being to harsh on Miller with regards to his cardio. He looked awful against Bisping but he has gone 5 rounds and not looked as bad.

With the biggest fight of his life coming up in a few months I don't think you'll ever find a sloppy Sonnen.
