Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting electric reconnected

    Hi,

My friend is buying a house but the lady selling it is dragging her feet for various reasons but anyway. The house has been without electric for just over two years, its in good condition there isnt anything really wrong with it.

But she was told because its not had electric for two years that the property has to be inspected, and then send out a guy 2 or 3 weeks later to get it connected and could potentially cost 1700e according to the lady on the fone all because its been disconnected for two years.

Is this true? Can we assume that this high price is for an old property thats damaged etc?

Some clarity from the ESB would be welcome thanks :)

    Hello spikealmighty,

As the property has been disconnected for over two years, your friend would need to apply to ESB Networks in order to get the property reconnected. An application can be submitted online or by calling 1850 372 757 and requesting that an application pack be sent out. Specific information on the entire process and the link to the online application can be viewed here. Once this application is complete, ESB Networks will then be in a position to issue a quote for the work that needs to be done. It would be very difficult to give any idea of what this quote would be without knowing specifics, which would be provided in the application.

I hope this information helps :)

    Regards,
    Mark

Me and my husband just bought a house! I thought I will just call to ESB and we will have electricity back. But we find out that the house was disconnected for more than 2 years. So now I'm filling up the form - NC2. I don't know exactly how much we will gonna pay or what is more important for us - how long it's gonna take. We really need electricity because we can't afford to pay mortgage and rent at the same time. Anyway I hope everything will be just fine :)
When I'll get the answer from Esb I'll Post!

    Hi issab,

Well, first of all congratulations on your purchase. :) It's unfortunate though that it has been without power for more than two years - in a case like this, ESB Networks consider it a new connection, hence the need to fill out the NC2 form you mentioned.

There is a step-by-step guide to getting connected on their website here. Step 8 outlines how long it usually takes:
If no significant extra work is required, we will generally complete your connection within 12 weeks after payment has been received.

In order to achieve this target, the following 2 things must take place:
    1. Your E.T.C.I. Certificate will be provided by your electrical contractor on completion of the wiring of your new house. A notification of this validated wiring certificate from your contractor's regulatory body must be received electronically by ESB Networks at least two weeks before the end of this 12 week period.
    2. You must contact ESB Networks at least two weeks before the end of this 12 week period to submit the Duct Completion Certificate which will confirm that the earth trench and outdoor meter cabinet has been provided for the electricity meters as per our ESB Networks' specification (PDF | 131KB). To Contact Us call 1850 372 757.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    David.
