Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have no technical knowledge when it comes to bikes so I would be grateful if you guys would help me solve the following problem:

When I push the lever to put a higher gear I have to push it hard and further than normally. Also, the lever does not go back to its default position, I have to move it back myself.

Both the mech (rear) and shifters are Deore.

There are lots of things that might need adjustment in a derailleur and shifter set-up, but I think I'd start by checking that the inner metal cable is moving smoothly through the outer casing around it. You could try working a bit of lubrication along it to see does that loosen things up. Also check that the derailleur itself isn't bunged up with dirt.

Beyond that, it may be that the set up needs adjustment. Have a look here:

It looks laborious but if you just follow the procedure step-by-step it might help sort it.

    Thanks for the reply.

Turned out that it was the lockout lever was the problem. It was rubbing the shifter lever preventing it from moving back.
