Check the site http://www.callcosts.ie This is run by the government. Select broadband and all and county etc. It lists every provider.

Broadband via a phone line is very limited depending on the distance from the exchange. The further you are the slower it will be:
    http://www.genealogynp.com/gcg/broadbanda.html

    If you go here:
    http://www.eircomwholesale.ie/
and scroll down to coverage map, it lists the location of most exchances and can list the exchange boundaries. If you live within 500 to 1000M of an exchange (as the wire runs) it can be quite fast.

If phone line is going to be too slow or two expensive there are other options. As UPC is out this is mainly mobile phone (3G) or fixed wireless (imagine, Etc)

3G normally uses a dongle and is more suited to one PC only. The speeds in reality normally max out at 1 to 2Mbps (although they claim higher) They all have caps and acceptable usage policy. You would need to confirm you can get a good phone signal with the provider you chose. If it's crap bring it back as soon as possible and get a refund.

Fixed wireless is usually slightly better than mobile phone based, however they all slow greatly in the evenings (contention) and are not suitable for really heavy downloaders. The availability varies greatly so you would need to contact each company directly. Installation cost can be quite high and minimum contracts of a year.

It is important to look at your options carefully. The true cost of broadband over a number of year can work out to thousands of euro so think carefully. Don't believe the speeds they say and any service with contention will slow in the evenings.
