    Hi Sean,

We'll have Carroll for the next 10 years and if he lives up to his potential it will be money very well spent. He has frightening abilities and can become an elite striker, something I feel will happen at Liverpool. We all know the shenanigans where Liverpool were left high and dry on deadline day, and we got the player who had been the league's best player during the first half of the league. We nursed him back to fitness and now he's back firing on all cylinders.

But are United really the better side. They have the better names, but do they have a better team? I'm torn at the moment. And also Liverpool have beaten United 4 from 6 in the league. Bodes well for Liverpool I feel.

I genuinely don't believe that you'll have Carroll for anymore than 3 or 4 seasons. In my view, he'll be dumped on the likes of Stoke or Sunderland to spend the rest of his career fouling people and trying to get on the end of long balls and long throws. He's just this decade's Kevin Davies (a multi million pound great prospect who became his decade's Tony Cascarino).

With all due respect, your claims regarding Carroll's ability and status as the League's best player for the first half of the 2010/2011 season are bizarre.

Michael Jordan used to say that missing a free throw made him statistically more likely to get the next because he was so good, and getting a free throw made him more likely to get the next one because he was on a roll.

If Liverpool have won 4 of the last 6 and United are the better side (which trophies and results would suggest), I expect them to regularise the position over the next 6 games by winning 5 of them.

What Liverpool players would United take for their first team? Possibly three - Reina, a fit Gerrard and Suarez. 3 from 11. That's not indicative of two evenly matched sides.

Looking forward to the game though.

Sorry - I specifically meant £20 million for myself and Bamboozling.

I honestly believe that Newcastle pulled the stroke of the century when they extracted £35 million from Liverpool for Carroll.

If Carroll's worth £35 million then Kevin Doyle is worth £35 million. In my view, they are players of similar ability (I'm ignoring age and UEFA rules regarding nationality).

Carroll is going to prove the doubters wrong. He is going to be the Zlatan Ibrahimovic of his generation. He set the league alight up until December last season and he's set to do it again, now that he's fit.

Your Jordan refernce is way off, football doesn't work like that.

If I was to pick a combined 11,

    ----Reina---
    Jones---Vidic---Agger----Enrique
    Lucas----Gerrard
    Nani---Suarez---Young
    ----Rooney----

    Rooney just edging out Andy.

Anyway I'm off, should be a great game.

You're contending that Liverpool players would make up more than 50% of a combined United/Liverpool XI?

And you're also contending that Rooney is "just edging out Andy"? Andy who? Andy Capp? Andy Cole? Andy Shevchenko?

That's crazy talk, Bamboozling. Liverpool are nothing more than a just about above mid table bunch of journeymen with two classy players (Reina and Suarez) and two washed up former classy players (Gerrard and Carragher). Perhaps they'll overachieve against United this weekend and get a result (as lesser teams do on occassion)? But that just shows where Liverpool have become - A mickey mouse cup team whose cup final is any match with United.

Liverpool are dead and buried as a force in English football. Lest we forget, Villa won the European Cup. Give me one good reason why Liverpool can leap frog United, City and Chelsea to win the League in the next 25 years? Their stadium is rubbish, their owners haven't the readies to fund the necessary squad rebuilding, the squad just isn't good enough and youth won't come through because their rivals can afford the best young talent and the geographical rules for young player recruitment are being relaxed which will further hamper lesser teams like Liverpool.

    It's game over, Bamboozling.

We are talking about the match on Saturday, History proves Liverpool almost always turn in a performance against United. Liverpool cant and shouldnt be ruled out.

Liverpool may be a spent force in English football at the moment, I mean there fighting for fourth place with Arsenal and Spurs and IMO its the highest they could get.

There signings of late may be ludicrous, for e.g Carroll, but it doesnt change the fact they could and most likely will turn in a performance against United on Saturday.Itl be a tough game and im looking forward to watching it with a few pints!:D

spent silly money on Henderson and Downing too when ye have a big problem with CB.

Downing has been excellent for us this season in fairness. Henderson will be in time.

Saying that, a new CB is needed, I won't deny that. That will be sorted out in time, Coates has been brought in and will be fully blooded as the season goes on. A top class CB needs to be added. It will happen.

For this game, what we have currently might cope.

Skrtel and the Greek were our CB pairing last year, with Carragher at RB and Glen Johnson at LB! There were probably alot of people laughing at that back 4, but they did the job on the day and did it well.

Expect Liverpool to win this one. Without Europe or a realistic league challenge (at least not likely) this is their cup final. Used to be the reverse back in the 80s when as a Utd fan beating Liverpool was a "trophy" while Liverpool won the titles. Both the crowd and the team will be up for it.

1-0 Liverpool. Hopefully Utd can stay clear of red cards and the types of injury Nani suffered last season.

Think Marriner is the ref. Can be corrected on that one. Hope not, don't rate him.

not doubting Downing, but spending £20m and £15m odd on Hendo this Summer when nobody else was in for then and ye could have gotten them later on for similar money (especially Henderson) and ye didn't need them as much as other areas.

The united centre mids are nothing great. IMO Lucas and Adam as well as Gerrard are better than Anderson Carrick Fletcher. Cleverly does look like a very decent prospect though

Right back is a problem spot for united I'd have Kelly or Johnson there phil jones would be at centre half

The were worth that money to their previous clubs rather than their ability. Both are/will be very good players for Liverpool

I'd agree about centre half and I'm wholly undecided about Coates I would have loved if Liverpool won the race for phil jones this summer. Hopefully Cahill can be added in January or next summer

Yeah what's that all about? Can't stand Yeats. He was asked about Tevez and he divulged us into conversation about how he would feel sorry for Richard Dunne and Shay Given as they will be beaten badly by City at the weekend.

Tbh I'm not listening for Ivan. Just too see what ****e Crerand and Thompson say. Should be full of Paddy's wind ups.

Yeah it is indeed for Jack Marshall. Would much rather see a minutes applause for these type of things as there is inevitably one fan/some fans that interrupt the minutes silence.

Just on team news for United, Cleverley has been ruled out as he hasnt recovered from his injury and Rafael is still out too.

We needed a winger as bad, if not worse than a CB!
There's a lot to be said for getting the big signings in first and leave the rest of the window to sign Enrique, Bellamy and Coates. Deals can fall down easily if it's left to the last minute.

It's not condescending to point out facts.

United are the reigning league champions and are top of the league this season and unbeaten. Their star player is the league's top scorer this season. United have been in three of the last four Champions League finals.

Liverpool's form over the last few season's has been pathetic for a club of their alleged stature. They've failed to reach the Champions League at all for the last two seasons and didn't make Europe at all last season. Their £35 million striker cannot score and is being touted as one of the biggest flops in the history of English football. Their much heralded centre half is clearly over the hill and is forced to resort to fouling people and their talismanic captain is little more than an injury ravaged shadow of his former self. They're stuck in a mickey mouse 40,000 seater stadium and don't have the resources to compete with the likes of United.

Based on the facts, United should win comfortably. Liverpool may win based on the vagaries of football but I know which camp any sane person would prefer to be in. It's nicer to be hoping that this goes according to the form book rather than clutching at the "we always raise our game for United" straw.

    Liverpool 1 United 3

    I'd rather walk alone.
