Rolling back the years. I saw them on the Cork stage and it only seems like last week!! yikes.
Bit of trivia about this tour is that Pantani finished dead last in the Dublin prologue but won the tour, mainly because Ullrich's big ass couldn't get him over the mountains :).

I can't get over how dated everything looks. Some of it may be down to the faded colours. But even the haircuts and fashion in the city centre shots.

if memory serves he was (ahem) taken out of it by none other than Johann Bruyneel on the road to Wexford.

Nice photos, hard to believe it was so long ago now.
Slightly off topic but....in the pic of the crowds sitting among the rocks, can anybody explain how the bike to the left of centre is parked. Looks like the front wheel is stuck in a crevice but still defies gravity. Perhaps it's just my eyesight failing.

    Thanks for the pics.

Notice how the weather was cold in summer even way back then.

Nope, he smacked into a wall just outside Youghal coming off the N25 as it was then. Broken collar bone, he was on the outside of the bunch and got squeez into the wall as the road narrowed and the bunch thinned.

these photos are great ,we were very lucky to have a stage start in enniscorthy that day boardman crashed out ,two great memories for me first seeing super mario cippolini and also watching marco pantani (r.i.p) cycling up castle hill with no hands whilst on a mobile phone!!gave me a love for cycling.
