Carlow to Wexford?!

    Hey guy, I put this over on the Wexford forum too but thought I'd pop it in here too, maybe someone can help.


    Just wondering if anyone can help me on this one. Basically I'm looking to get to Weford town (even Enniscorthy would do) from Carlow town via public transport, but, from what I can see its no easy task! (by train have to go to Dublin, then down to Wexford, cant see anything on Bus Eireann, unless I'm missing something).

    I would have thought there would have been a straight, or even semi straight link between Carlow and Wexford? Am I missing something, is there any smaller/private bus companies that do the route?

    Carlow-Waterford-Wexford is almost half the journey of Carlow-Dublin-Wexford.

    You could get the bus from Tullow. The times might not suit you though.

    In an ideal world there should be a Carlow Town to Wexford Town bus route with several journeys each way daily.

    Going via Waterford (as already posted) is preferable. Both Bus Éireann (Route 4) and J.J. Kavanagh & Sons operate Carlow to Waterford (Kavanagh's route continues to Tramore).

    Bus Éireann offer through ticketing Carlow-Wexford; the online returns vary from €24.23 to €27.55 depending on which of the three types of return ticket one buys. The same through ticket can be bought onboard but will be a little dearer (online tickets are discounted by 5%).

    Going via Tullow: J.J. Kavanagh & Sons operate a Carlow to Hackettstown route which serves Tullow. It departs Carlow Coach Park at 17:10 each weekday and arrives Tullow (Square) at 17:35. The fare is 5 euro adult single.

    It's a fair wait until the Bus Éireann Route 3 Expressway to Wexford at 19:25, arriving Wexford 20:40. Perhaps just "do-able" but one could adjourn for a coffee.

    There's no bus stop per se at Tullow Square - the buses just pull up there.

    The return journey via Tullow is unrealistic and would involve over four hours waiting (08:35 Bus Éireann ex Wexford, Tullow arrive 09:40 and no J.J. Kavanagh & Sons journey to Carlow until 13:55).
