Do you need windows/keyboard/speakers/mouse and are you willing to pay by bank transfer (for hardwareversand.de, which is one of the cheapest for parts)?

    ASRock P67 Pro3 (B3), Sockel 1155, ATX|€86.69

A bit over the mark as I was trying to squeeze the SSD in there. I suppose you can leave out the heatsink as it's not essential and you can always upgrade it later (or if you want to spend more, there's the mugen 3). Keyboards on HWV are German layout so you might want to order elsewhere.

With an €800 budget, don't need a monitor, would use it for odd bit of gaming, more often for college, work, browsing, streaming and the like.
Any replies would be most welcome!!!
What sort of College work? If it's just word processing etc, then your build depends entirely on what sort of gaming you do i.e., which games, what settings, what resolution etc. €800 will get you a very capable gaming PC.

Unregistered makes good points, if it's just a few games or lower resolution, the graphics card can be downgraded.

Dell has crappier processor, less RAM (and using 4 slots so you probably can't add more), more HDD space but probably slower, no SSD so much slower boot, much slower graphics card, no speakers, and a heck of a load of bloatware. But it does give you windows, keyboard and mouse.

It is actually a quad core too but no match to the towering might of the 2500K.

    how much is windows 7?

If you're a student, you can get it for €45 (or possibly less from your college), otherwise ~€80.

If you dropped the graphics and the SSD from mono's build to equal the XPS, then you'd have more than enough cash to spare for these. something to think about.

bottom line lads is the pc worth 800?
It depends on your needs. You could spend 10K on a pc to do word processing. Or you could spend €200 on a netbook to do word processing. Both are very capable when it comes to word processing. Tell use what sort of gaming you are doing.

Each item is covered by it's own warranty, which is usually around the 3 year mark. You'd still have to find out what's wrong yourself and send in the items. The Dell has one year warranty where they will fix any problems (and they're usually actually very efficient at this) but after the year, you're on your own.

I had picked out a gaming machine for high resolution games (1920x1080) as you didn't give details on monitor or games. You can downgrade do a 6870 or 6850 to save €50-70 which will still have everything looking nice and still much better than the Dell.

The dell will be less upgradable because
-memory slots are filled; you'd need to replace RAM rather than add more
-board is not capable of overclocking. This is very easy to do with this generation of processors and you can get a lot of extra performance with a little of tweaking and patience.
    -PSU is usually limited

You could run HL2 on the integrated graphics.

Did you want windows 7 in the budget?
By the way, the €45.45 price is for Windows 7 Professional at www.software4students.ie. It's an upgrade edition, but you can use it on a clean install if you follow the tutorials around the web. Here's home edition on HWV. http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=29181

    why?
Because the only thing you can improve on is the (already very good) GPU - which may also require a PSU upgrade - and/or get a bigger SSD. For your needs, mono's builds are fine. Drop the speakers and the cooler if you want to buy Windows and keep it under 800.

SSDs are pretty expensive. 64GB is enough for windows and your essential programs, but 128GB gives a bit more room to work with.
    http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=46110

550W is enough for the 6870. You could actually downgrade to the 450W and save €10.

Are you planning on overclocking op? If not and you wanted to save money you could change to an i5-2500 or i5-2400 and change down to a H67 board. Saving of ~40-50 euro. (Probably worth sticking with the 2500k since overclocking is now so easy but just throwing it out there anyway).

    what about a blueray/dvd/rw drive?

I had a dvd drive in there. Do you want a blu ray drive? You have to get blu ray software to play blu ray films even if you have the drive.

By the way, these are just for the parts, they're not together. You can get hardwareversand to build it for €20.
    http://www4.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=746
Or there's a list of volunteers in a thread around who will do it for you, but it's not difficult. It just requires a bit of patience and to read the manuals.
