In the days and weeks following the earthquake/tsunami of March 11th 2011, Japan got a lot of media coverage. As is to be expected though, that media interest soon died away but I'm sure the effects of the disaster didn't disappear so quickly.

I'm curious as to what Japan is like at the moment. Not just in the affected areas, but all across the country. Are there any after effects still to be seen in places like Tokyo? How is the aftermath of the disaster currently affecting the economy? Are people trying to avoid Japan at this time?

Hopefully anyone living there or who has been there in recent months can share their experiences.

Living in Tokyo it is very much returned to normal but the somber mood still exists. Its hard to describe in words - fear of radiation and its contamination of the food and water surfaces in the media frequently. The aftershocks are less frequent now with the odd M5 reminding us those plates are not quite settled yet.

Japanese people are doing a great job in tidying up and trying to rebuild in the affected areas but to see the government officials making a mess of things would break your heart. Fortunately people here don't get emotional here about the incompetence of these political fools and it is ordinary people that are getting things fixed day by day.
