Free Eye tests for under 7s this week

    This week is Bright Eyes week. Free eye testing for kids under 7 years. Go to www.aoi.ie and find an optician near you.

    School age kids, (and younger) get free eyetests through the HSE anyway.

    If you have an concerns contact your PHN, or your local HSE for an appointment. My 3 wear glasses, and there has never been any delays with eye tests for them.

    from my experience the HSE does not give eye tests to children outside of school. If you want to get their eyes tested outside of the primary school system then you have to pay.
    My daughter saw a specialist through the HSE, but my son will have to wait until school as he just needs an ordinary eye test.

    Had a look at the website and it does not say that the tests are free, does anyone know if they are?

    I spoke to our PHN today and we're going to the Health Centre on Friday week for an eye test. The opticians don't go to school anyway - only the PHN does for screening. If she suspects a problem she'll recommend an eye test with the HSE optician.

    I have 3 children. 1 got glasses at 18 months (free test with HSE), other got glasses at 2 (free test with HSE) other had glasses at 4, had not started school but free eye test with HSE!

    If you are concerned contact your PHN, and ask for him to be referred. That's what I did.

    Edit: and since they got glasses, all have them around 2 years now.. they are regularly brought back for checks.. all free, and no delays!

    I'm thinking of the small fortune I've spent on opticians over the last few years :rolleyes:
    My eldest is in 3rd class and I've yet to hear of any eye test through the school system:confused: Both were already in school by the time I got their eyes tested... would the free HSE eye tests have applied then?
    It had been so many years since I had any contact with the PHN it never crossed my mind to go that route!

    My daughter (aged 2yrs 10 months) is being seen by the eye clinic in Rathdown Road and as a result my other two children are being automatically referred to the eye clinic also by the PHN... everything is free and she even got a voucher for 50 euro off lenses for the glasses she needed.
