Paul Rose, aka Scuba, is one of the most important and prolific electronic producers around today. Originally from London, Scuba relocated to Berlin in 2007, a move which (according to some) influenced his critically acclaimed debut album, A Mutual Antipathy (2008). The stylistic synergy of the album cemented his position as one of the most forward-thinking dubstep producers. The project was subsequently completed with a series of remixes by Surgeon, Substance, Jamie Vex’d, Martyn, Marcel Dettmann and the artist himself under his house/techno-centred SCB guise.
His music has always had an industrial edge, that bridges the gaps between techno, house and the many varying types of bass music.

Scuba is the founder and director of Hotflush recordings, one of the original dubstep labels which has released some of the most important tunes of the genres reformative period (such as resident advisors 2009 track of the year Hyph Mngo by Joy Orbison) and continues to show endless originality. More recent releases include Sepalcure, Braille, Lando Kal, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Sigha, Roska, and previous Salt guest George FitzGerald.
In 2010 Scuba put out his Triangulation album on Hotflush which received shining reviews across the board. Lately he has released his hugely anticipated Adrenaline EP, and is preparing a new album.
His Adrenaline track has seen massive amounts of DJ support since he played it at Sonar just gone. Appearing in mixes, on radio, and in sets everywhere from the London underground to Ibiza. Jordan Rothlein, in his Resident Advisor review of the Adrenaline EP, says: "...the three positively beaming slices of trancey (trancey!) techno on offer might add up to the most ebullient record of the year. Even given "Loss," his upbeat anthem (as SCB) on Aus Music that's been slaying clubs all year, and the ticklish "Feel It" from Hotflush's Back and 4th, "Adrenalin" comes as something of a shock."

Scuba also runs his own club night, SUB:STANCE, at Berlin's techno Mecca, Berghain, and is one of the first highly successful bass driven nights in Berlin. Recently he recorded a mix for DJ-Kicks which boasts exclusively heard tracks by Boddika, Jon Convex, Beaumont, Addison Groove and the man himself, Scuba.
"It's loosely based around the last couple of sets I've recently played at my club night, Sub:Stance, at Berghain in Berlin," explains Rose.
"It's the last set of the night. It's longer than the other sets. We tend to have lots of people playing for 90 minutes. But the last set is at least three hours or more, so you have more freedom. It's really varied. You can play more or less anything and people will stay with you. That's so special. A key thing I've been doing in those sets is starting off faster, say 138, and slowing down. It's really gradual, slowing each tune down a little bit. The idea was to condense that three hour set into an hour. It drops about 12bpm over the hour, from 136 to 124. Each tune is a little bit slower. I don't like mixes that jump around, I prefer things to flow."

If Scuba's set this year is anything like his performance last year at Salt, we are in for a treat. Expect crushing techno, stunning house, innovative bass music and (hopefully!) lots of Hotflush promo's! :D
