Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What will your skyrim be like??

Skyrim is such a diverse and open game that every single game is going to be unique to how the individual wants to play it!

I know I'm going to spend over an hour in the character creation section judging by this short video

But how will you play the game..??

In previous elder scrolls I always went with the brute strength, handled weapons approach.. I never really got into the magic side of things that much!! I might try getting heavily magical on skyrims ass this time!!

I usually avoid the main quest for long periods of time also!! go exploring and do the odd main quest mission every now and then!

Getting so excited bout this game and shocked at how quite the elder scrolls forum is! hopefully it'll pick up come around release!

So, what approach will you take??

Ranged weapons and stealth. I can't help but play this way.

Unfortunately games generally favour certain types of player build. Usually a straight up warrior will breeze through these games whereas thief builds and range characters can find it difficult.

I am hoping for a good balance

From a video I watched yesterday you can change whenever you like, There are no Major and Minor skills anymore so everything will level you up. Im going to go for a spell sword as I always do in TES.

I personally go for the ranged weapons and stealth also. Maybe mix in a bit of Magic based attacks, mainly long ranged fireballs or so.

So probably one of the elven classes to start off.

From previous Eldar Scrolls and Fallout games i explore everywhere first, so I have an ultimate fast travel map, and then start the main quests.

    I can not wait!

Think I'll play as Khajiit for the first time ever, which lends itself to being stealthy. In previous games I've usually gone for the dark elves and tried being a bit of an all-rounder.

I've always liked playing the mage. Is the mages guild back in Skyrim? The new magic looks great from the preview videos. I know you can marry but can you have kids? There would be some seriously funny breeding going on if you could! (A Nord and a Kajiit would be an interesting one :P)

Yup! mages guild will be in Skyrim, its called the College of Winterhold!!

I would hate to see the offspring of a Khajiit and an orc, or worse again a Khajiit and an Argonian! would be messy :D

I almost always start with short range weapons and end up restarting as a mage. I'll probably just start it properly this time.

I'm always a mage, and I think I'll stay that way...

Ill probably try a BattleMage, mainly will go for offensive Magic but will wear heavy armour

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭Stocking Drinks Whiskey

I have no idea what it will be like but god damn it it better live up to expectations!

I tend to go for a battle-mage setup, I'm mostly sword, shield and heavy armour but I have powerful magic backing that up too.

Also, thank god for the presets!

The ugly thieving mage warrior is what I'll go for if I get around to playing this.

I tend to go spellsword with a 70/30 preference to spells

Khajiit, I can't wait to join the thieves guild and the dark brotherhood.

The wait is killing me now.

Stealthy thief build me thinks!Stealth kills seem much in proved!

Or else a very offensive mage, have to see what pretty things they can summon.

Can't wait to check out the perks! That should help balance the straight up warrior does best thing that these games usually have

One of the things I hated about Fallout 3 was that it was very easy to get near to max in most skills, meaning specialising in one style of play was non-existent after a short while in the game. I hope that's not going to be the case with Skyrim, as it kinda defeats the idea of role-playing and character creation, if everyone can pretty much do the same things.

Hoping each race has their own unique perks (or some other mechanic to prevent identikit adventurers), but not going to count on it.

I'll not have my copy from Amazon til Monday or Tuesday, so I'm avoiding the main thread in the Games forum in case of spoilers.

However, I'd love to hear how those of you who've got the game have set up your character. I'm still toying with the idea of a stealthy Khajiit especially now that I hear archery is much more effective than in Oblivion. What about you? What race and style of play are ya going for?

I started as a mage and a nord...I'm currently ARCHERYLOL. Archery is pretty unbeatable so far.

    Vampire Cat

    It's going to be awesome!

18 hours played. Very enjoyable :D

The books found in the game are well worth reading :P

Can anyone enlighten me here: I reached a stage int he game where I was just completely unable to kill a particular mob, so I saved the game, changed the game difficulty to easy, kill the mob, changed the difficulty back and resaved. Since then I've faced a few challenging creatures but none are really that hard that I can solo them myself with 5 or 6 arrows, this includes master vampires etc. I'm currently level 19 and I've only faced 2 dragons (both after level 16) and they were easier than some of the mobs I've faced. I put the difficulty up to expert in the hope that it will make it challenging.

I havnt complete my 1st character yet, on level 30 or something but I already want to start a new one to try out magic/stealth. And Im not even bored of my current one!

  • Registered Users Posts: 467 ✭✭Dave1711

Level 32 atm on my archer/stealth character.
Archery is proving pretty unstoppable for me anyway up to level 83 in it!
Gonna go for pure mage next, can't wait to try out the magic :-D.

Must go back to the story though, finished the thieves and companions quests and have only done like 3/4 story quests

I agree, I chose archery by chance, having found ti frustrating in Oblivion. It's so much fun! I wish the bows looked more unusual though :(

I'm going to put my Nord Warrior on ice and try a Breton Battlemage :p

Had a bit of an experiment with magic and it's just awesome.

What are Nord's like with magic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

I've picked my main character as a dark elf since starting Morrowind. Only level 9 or so now, damn work and sleep eating up my skyrim time.

Going for a battlemage first run through as usual. Second go I'll try a light armour archer-mage.

not as good as a dark elf or high elf imo..

I'm going magical 1st time through and I chose a high elf as they have increased magic regen

Made a high elf pure mage character the other day
    So much FUN!!
Not having to sneak around and burning everything is most enjoyable.
