We don’t drag up old threads

    EDIT

A user has reported the closure of the thread asking why this policy is in place.

Not dragging up old threads is a longstanding rule on these forums. The reason is that circumstances and developments change particularly in the cable and digital industry. These forums have been active since May 2001. To give an indication of changes since that time there was no Saorview, or Saorsat, or Virgin Media, or Vodafone TV, or eir Vision at that time. Names like Irish Multichannel, NTL, CMI Cable, ONdigital, etc have disappeared

Where old threads are dragged up, there may be posts which were perfectly true at the time but are no longer the case. For example in a thread from May 2001 it would be better perfectly true to say that BBC One was not available to Irish Sky digital customers. Where threads are dragged up such posts have a habit of being quoted and argued again and again even though the poster was perfectly correct at the time. This is the primary reason the rule is in place.

In the case of this particular thread it comes from a point in time when Saorsat did not exist and there was still a possibility it might not happen. Obviously this has been overtaken by events. The thread itself is therefore spent.

I hope this offers a full explanation as to why this rule is in place and the reasons for it
