Hey folks, not sure if posting this in the right place!

Just wondering if there is any Arch. Tech’s out there that branched out into the CG Visualization area (Not limited to Architectural) in the last, 3-4 years say. Any advice from a re- training / employment point of view. Hope this isn’t too vague!

I am looking at getting into this area myself, as I really enjoy it. I have started to teach myself 3DS Max., but I know i’ll need some sort of structured formal training at some point, that will hopefully get me a junior position somewhere..........which more than likely won’t be here at home!

Traditionally, i’m well used to Sketchup, used it LOADS in work, great program. I also started to use a program called Kerkythea about 3 or so years ago (SU plugin), which gives some pretty decent outputs, then Photoshop for a bit of post processing jiggery pokery! :) All this sort of fuelled the fire!

Anyways! Would appreciate any comments / advice, cheers!

i dont think there are many ATs who would have branched out into CGI.

Of the guys who i went to college with and were interested / very good at 3d modelling... they went specifically into those areas post college.

Its a specialist area and there are other routes to it possibly more suitable than AT.

Thanks Syd. Maybe so, I thought there may have been one or two here who may have done some specific “re-training” in the area, or even had any sort of opinion on it. I understand it’s a specialist area, a lot of the big CGI forms employ professional animators, the likes of lads that could work for pixar.

With the collapse of the construction industry I would say there are possibly a few arch techs who have retrained or are doing so right now in this area, I considered it myself.

I would say you have the question posted in the wrong forum as any arch techs retraining will have little interest in this forum these days.
