Hey I'd be interested in this too (having just looked at prices!), in the Newcastle Rd./Shantalla area, would be hoping to get about 700l or so.

Did he say what the rate might be exactly?
Maybe if we post the rates offered companies might be "encouraged" to be more competitive. There definitely looks like there's quite a bit in it for them as well as us if it goes to plan.

The Westside of the city seems to be very well represented here and I'd say they'd get quite a few deliveries within a short distance.

He said the rate would depend on the total amount ordered as well as the number of stops. If there are 10 people looking for 1,000 litres each it would be cheaper than 20 people all looking for different amounts (500L for 1, 700L for another, 1000L for the next etc)

I would say our best bet is get an exact list of who wants what, total it up and then we can call around and see who gives us the best price.

From having a quick look over the thread there seems to be about 12/13 people interested so far.

    Check out these guys.

    www.unitedwesave.ie

I bought oil from them last april and i hope to do so again.

They were cheaper than any other quote i received.
They operate by negotiating a bulk discount from suppliers.
I paid upon delivery and i assume the supplier paid a commission to the intermediary.

Anyway, i was happy with the price i got.

Good idea. Yes, the site does take a cut though. Wonder which way would be cheaper. We could always sign up and see what the quote is?

Exactly, we've got nothing to lose.

Looks like the saving is about 40 quid. I'll still sign up and see, but I'd say we might be able to swing a bit better.

What is the current state of play with this group-buying scheme? I would be looking to get oil this week ideally. Have any deals been struck with companies yet?

I signed up to that site. I'm hoping for a saving. They will ring me on Monday apparently. Currently 500litres from corrib oil would cost me €411.50

    Thanks for the link bagles

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭carmex21

    Yep, thanks for the link.

Joined for oil in Shantalla and they are contacting me on Monday with a price.
Will let you know the cost.
    :)

I rang around a couple days ago; best price I found on 1000L was €800 from Cosyhome -and Texoil said they would do it for that as well, having first quoted €810.

    Nothing here either.
With at least 4 of us signed up for this week you'd think they might've been able to do something for us.

Same here. Got his email when I joined:
    Hi <snip>,

Thank you for joining our Oil Heating Group.

The group will close on Sunday 09 October and we will be back in touch the following day with the best price that we have negotiated for the group.

    Many thanks,
    <snip>

Hopefully we will hear back today or tomorrow - my oil-burner is running on fumes at the moment

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭cfeeneyinterior

I'm in on it too, not a word since them. Logged in and it said "Group Closed. Negotiating Price"......?
    Must be very serious negotiations

If memory serves me correctly, last time the quote took a week or two so if people can hold on till then it might be worth it.

If necessary, perhaps you could buy a few litres from your local filling station to tide you over.

Thats what a mate of mine does.
He can't afford the outlay for a fill so he goes to the filling station with a 5 gallon drum every so often.
    Good idea or not?
    I don't know.

Hi, sorry couldn't wait for a deal to be negotiated and rang around a few places yesterday. Bargained with Corrib and knocked €20 off 500 l. The guy that answered the phone said he hadn't the authority to reduce the price so I asked him to contact someone who did. He rang me back 10 mins later with the reduced quote. Hope ye manage to get a good deal soon.
