I got the text from Corrib Oil too. I ran out of oil last week and am trying to decide whether to order now or wait till Autumn. By the looks of the price increase between now and last year it looks as though I should order sooner rather than later.

Blimey, Has oil gone that expensive, has it got to the point if its worth buying? No wonder so much has been stolen recently from peoples tanks. I havent brought since last september. Think its time to move over to an electric heater/emmersion from now on.

Nothing cheap about oil prices ATM ....these are prices today for 500L and word is to expect another price hike.I tried bargaining but no luck today.

Edit : A late entry . Claddagh Oil gave it to me at 480 after some haggling. They win and get an underline!

    Cosy Oil €485
    Connell Oil €485

    Corrib oil €490 https://www.corriboil.com/modules/Co...aspx?TreeID=68
    Top Oil €510http://www.top.ie
City Bin €499 including customer discount

    Jones Oil €495 https://www.jonesoil.ie/order-online/
    Suttons Oil €495 http://www.suttonsoil.ie/

Wow. It's not much different to buying it by the cannister so. 20 yoyos for a 20 litre refil at Silverstrand Station.
People have started buying it that way as it's being nicked more often.

God when you think about it like that it's hard not to feel scammed. I know there's delivery prices built into the larger quantities but still you'd expect to be saving something more substantial than a max of 20 quid that you had to haggle for. How long would 20l last ?

How long would 20l last ?

I'm not great at judging things like that tbh, as how much I'm home in the evening varies a lot.

1 -2 hours day for a week I would say for a normal 3 bed detached house.

Crumbs, lets hope its not a cold winter. 1€/l

Whille i cant say exactly, ours definitely lasted longer than that. All depends on your boiler efficiency too.

Just moved into house in the city for college.
Need to order oil and looking for cheapest but also do orders under €200.
Four girls in the house will need it to heat one shower every 2nd day (making sure we take it same night haha) and to heat the house a little at night.
How long would you think we could make it last if we are careful about it?

In the thread above you can find answers to the first two questions.
How long it will last? Anyone's guess really.
Is there anything in the tank now?

    Cosy Oil €485

Thanks for the heads up, sent Cosy (never came across them before) an email earlier this evening via their online form asking for a €480 price for 500l and they got back within 10mins agreeing and saying they'll deliver tomorrow morning, so impressed with their service so far.

I just checked online and Corrib and Cosyhome are both 470 euro for 500 litres.

McCormacks are 480 euro for 500 litres and Suttons are 483.50 euro for 500 litres.

These are online prices and it's worth calling to see if you can get a better deal by haggling.

Does anyone know what petrol stations around the city sell Kerosene at the pumps?

But a lot of garages now do it.

Would there be much of a price difference between the garages and the home deliveries?

It's back to that time of year again, especially this morning with the temp gauge saying only 4 degrees :(

Anyway, does anybody know of anywhere doing deals on briquettes and coal?

I saw McDonogh's were doing 10 bales of briquettes for €32, but that ended on Sept 28th. Cheapest I can find them is at €3.90 per bale in Joyces, Knocknacarra.

Also, any recommendations on who to get coal from (3 40kg bags is all that'll fit in our bunker)?

    Thanks.

The Texaco near the Harbour Hotel were selling 3 bales of briquettes for 9.90 on Saturday.
They were also selling 2 bags of 20kg Smokeless Coal for 14 euro

Bord na Mona peat briquettes are inferior quality?
That's quite a damning statement in my opinion.

Actually Biko it is not an offence to burn smoky coal in the city. The marketing, sale and distribution of bituminous fuel within designated areas (within City boundary) is an offence.

Looks like the rules have also changed this year to incorporate a ban on burning of smoky fuel within the designated ares: See below:
    Introduction
Galway City has been a designated 'Smoke Free Zone' since 2000. New legislation, namely 'The Air Pollution Act (Marketing, Sale, Distribution and Burning of Specified Fuels) Regulations, 2012, came into force on the 31st August 2012. The most significant aspect of these new regulations for Galway is the extension of the 'Smoke Free Zone' into areas of the County, namely the Electoral Division areas of: Ballintemple, Barna, Carrowbrowne and Galway Rural.

The purpose of these regulations is to improve the environment, particularly air quality, and to protect human health from the harmful emissions which result from the burning of bituminous coal high in sulphur.

    Ban on Burning
In addition to the extension of the restricted 'Smoke Free Zone' area, the new regulations have also introduced a ban on the burning of smoky coal and other prohibited fuels in all smoky coal ban specified areas.
It is now illegal to burn, sell, market or distribute banned fuels within the restricted area of Galway.

I was referring to the coal, sorry.

Last time I bought coal in the Texaco, it wasn't BnM coal. Could have changed
