Without doubt the most disturbing, not that it shows much but it implies so much... Disgusting really now in retrospect

After hearing and reading so much about the controversies surrounding this film I bought the Bluray release to see the film. Most boring piece of crap ( no pun intended ) I've ever watched. I didnt find it shocking, arousing, erotic. In fact I didnt find it anything. It was banal in the extreme.

The men behind the sun is horrible to say the least. Particularly because it really happened!

Funny Games (this is the only one that really comes to mind right at this moment.)

I'm not sure I've really even seen a film that I found particularly shocking, but Funny Games is probably the closest. It's one of my favourite films.

Um, I guess Eden Lake was a little bit shocking, I wasn't expecting a lot of what happened. It's also one of my favourites.

^ I saw Last House on the Left. I wasn't overly shocked by it. It wasn't what I was expecting but I really didn't think it particularly disturbing.

Okay I really haven't seen any shocking films!

    The Sound of Music.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Creep....not necessarily the whole movie, but one particularly graphic scene really disturbed me.

Salo - one girl in it gets forced to eat ****.

Saw this in the Irish Film Theatre late 70's/early 80's.

Some people left during the film which was unusual as the IFT audiences were usually quite liberal minded.

    One sick film, though.

American History X - the kerb and an open mouth :(

Hostel, when it was first released - all I heard was "Quentin Tarantino" and thought, hmmn, that should be good :(:(

Threads & Requiem For A Dream. No happy endings in those films, shockingly depressing.

    The Nicholas Berg execution.

Someone email it to me when I was in college. I am still traumatised from having watched it. Honestly do not under any circumstances watch it, especially with sound. Honestly just don't watch it.

Wolf Creek is pretty creepy - all the more so in that its based on real events in the Aussie outback!!

Its hard for a movie to shock people nowadays because of whats available on the internet (which is real:eek:). Id say i spit on your grave,A Serbian film are the most hardcore that i know of, but still tame to whats out there.

    I have a few...

Hostel - have seen it a few times and there are two or three scenes that still get to me.
Especially the scene where Josh has his heel slashed open.
The fact that it's based on true events is disturbing tbh.

Hostel 2 - Has some shocking scenes but I actually was really disappointed with it after seeing the first one.

Requiem for A Dream - the ending is the most depressing ending to a film I've ever seen. Good few very shocking scenes too.
e.g. ass to ass, Harry's arm, anything with Sara in the hospital, the ending.

The Human Centipede - the whole concept is just disturbing. Sequel out soon. Not sure if I want to see it.

American History X - one particular scene makes me want to vomit. If you've seen it you'll know the one I mean.

Wolf Creek - like Hostel, the fact that it's based on true events is disturbing.
The part where that girl has her spinal cord severed sticks out it my mind.

The Clinic - Not talking about the RTE series lol. This is an Australian film. Would imagine not a lot of people will know it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1345772/ Very messed up it has to be said.

"Audition" and a "Tale of two sisters" are both pretty messed up.

That scene in one of the exorcist sequels - in a hospital where the nurse checks a room doing her night rounds, (you are looking as if you're in the hall with the room to the left - u don't see in the room, only the hall) walks out into the brightly lit hall and goes off shot and suddenly for half a second you see a flash of something on the ceiling of said hall - I actually stopped the film and did the step by step button - it's a person covered in a sheet, you see nothing of the person only the shape with a knife/scalpel in their hands crawling along the ceiling - I had nightmares for weeks after!!!

Irreversable rape scene messed up my sex life for a good two weeks!

Funny Games was brilliant. I seen the Austrian version. I do believe they made a shot for shot American remake.

It is? If it is, then I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's extreeeeeeeemely loosely based on true events. And I mean "extreme" in the extreme sense of the word.

The most shocking for me are probably the Magdaline Sisters and Song for a raggy boy! Yes there are worse films but the fact these are TRUE and really happened , and in the country i call home , well it really shocked me and had an affect on me. And since those films were made even worse things have been reported but for me and most of the public those films were shocking.

    Some good suggestions here,

No point going back over the ones already suggested (some good ones!) and these are not really ultra shocking or anything but some might find them a little disturbing or at least 'edgy'. Worth a look either way!

    Bully

    Dogville

    Alpha Dog

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭Ouijaboard

    Oh I forgot;

Mulholland Drive ....sticks with you a bit, as does most Lynch stuff, particularly Lost Highway and Inland empire.

Barton Fink is also quite good, not exactly disturbing but leaves you feeling a bit cold.

Threads is getting a lot of mentions. It definitely deserves it for sheer bleakness.

    If you're wondering: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2023790698427111488

But there's also an earlier, 1965 BBC drama/documentary about nuclear war that's pretty harrowing as well, The War Game:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2864871032688882557

Felt seriously unsettled after both of those :( The latter was banned from broadcast for 20 years by the BBC.

Just looking through Threads at the moment Platus. Never heard of it before tonight.

My god ... thats the only words I can say.

The whole horror-porn genre does nothing for me. Just a more extreme theme and experience every few months. Just become anesthetised to the whole thing.

Give me something like The Shining, which at least is craftly made, and has the ability to creep most people out the first time they see it.

Seen Threads when I was 12 , still scares the sh1t out of me and I'm now 40 , only had the balls to go and watch it again last year , still as disturbing as the first time I watched it.

It's pretty relentless, and based on the 'best-case-scenario'.

    Megan Is Missing- very disturbing.
I just watched that and couldn't finish it. When it got to the last 22 minutes, after he lifted the lid off the barrel I had to stop it

'Spice World' was a fairly harrowing film, based on true events I believe.

Channel surfing one night, came across Trinity and Beyond about the develpment of nuclear weapons. Both engrossing and deeply disturbing. William Shatners deadpan narration is spot on.

The film that shocked me is Antichrist which I saw the other night, I still can't get it out of my head. Shocking film.

To be honest I just thought Antichrist was art-house tripe.

Worst would be Irreversible and Martyrs.

Saw The Hills have Eyes 2 there recently, terrible acting but the rape scene of a mother by one of the mutants has stayed with me for a few days, pretty sick. Why the f**k does Wes Craven have rape scenes in over half of his films, strange chap id say

The Accused - watched it when I was young in front of my embarassed Dad. Its just the one scene but its not particularly nice. And its poor little Jodie.

Once Were Warriors for me. So brutal and leaves you shocked and numb at the end of it. The most shocking and powerful film I've seen i think.
