What options does that leave someone with, Lump the cost of satellite with no subsidy?

The rural "broadband" scheme is supposed to cover those cases. Subsidised satellite connection I believe. There's more info on the DCENR website.

The full details of how this competition will be designed and run are not yet finalised. However, I can confirm that the scheme is designed to subsidise the initial capital cost of providing the actual physical broadband connection and, that under the rules applying to the EU funding for the scheme, we are precluded from subsidising monthly tariffs for the service provided

Its a mystery what this scheme (the RBS) is about. Onwave are doing installations at €99 euro at present and as above there will be no monthly subsidy.

Even with a 100% installation subsidy and 5000 applicants thats a total outlay of €0.5M from a budget of €18M.

The NBS and the RBS are both nonsense.

Successive governments should be ashamed.

If there was 5000 more Satellite users in Ireland the Cap would have to be very low. There isn't the capacity for "normal" broadband caps.
