Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Romney slips on hiring Illegals

Speaking of Freudian Slips: During the CNN debate Rick Perry converted a discussion on Health Care into an attack on Romney's Immigration history, pointing out that Mitt Romney knowingly hired Illegals for as long as a year after first being notified of it.

Well the accusation worked beautifully for Rick Perry: Romney lost his temper in the best sense of the word and let slip, That even while he has been saying he never hired illegal immigrants, that he worked with a lawncare company that did, and that year later approached the company and finally said 'I'm running for office, so you can't have illegal immigrants on your payroll'. Basically. The insinuation being that before deciding to run, he really didn't give a ****.
Romney, for the first time, lost his cool. More importantly, for the first time Romney said something on stage that plays right into the worst narratives about himself: that he will do or say anything to win.
After saying he never employed an illegal immigrant — a claim he knew to be only technically true — he said, “I’m running for office, for Pete’s sake, I can’t have illegals,” Romney said on stage. So in one sentence he opened himself to charges of shading the truth and caring about employing an illegal alien not because it’s wrong but because it would hurt his campaign.
And, finally, no one is talking about Perry’s uneven performance on stage. Instead, the media are reporting extensively on just the thing Perry’s campaign wanted them to be chattering about — the exchange over illegal immigrants.
The morning after the debate, Obama adviser David Axelrod hit Romney over the comments, telling CBS’s “The Early Show” that it was an “unintentionally revealing moment” because it suggested Romney was worried about the illegal workers only because he’s running for office.
Whether that's enough to damn his campaign will be up for his base to decide, but the admission stinks especially if you're a hard-line conservative on the immigration issue. And, if you happen to be a moderate that has an aversion to liars.

These fools are all the same. Their hypocrisy knows no limits.

They'll bang on about the rule of law and then take bribes and insider information. They'll preach about loyalty and then dump their sick or dying wives (McCain, Gingrich). They call for tough sentences for drug offences then but when they themselves are caught addicted to oxycontin then all of a sudden they're for "treatment" (Limbaugh).
They'll preach the evils of homosexuality all the while they're hiring rent-boys and sexually harassing male interns. Christine Todd Whitman screeched and squawked about illegal immigrants and all the while was employing and undocumented Latina nanny.
They bang on about "Christian" or "family" values while they're having affairs. They'll preach about "support the troops" but leave veterans to wallow in the own urine and excrement at Walter Reed.

    They're disgusting

They are fighting for a world where the rules only apply to poor people and minorities. Of course they are disgusting.

I think Jon Stewart said it best: "Get this dog off my penis; I'm running for office for goodness' sake!"

Mitt Romney really is a nasty piece of work. We know from last time round this man will do anything, say anything, be anything, in order to be President. We know how vile and hypocritical he is and how he is symptomatic of the entire Republican party.

The most distressing thing is that he is the least bad alternative. If I was forced to choose a Republican to be President it would either be him or Jon Huntsman.

    How I despise ideological conservatism.

Also have to love how he says his healthcare plan works great for Massachusetts but is too socialist for the rest of the country. I'm with you Derrick, can't stand these republican m-kers who will say anything to get elected.
