Ah you'd get two new sticks and 8 buttons (assuming you even need them) for well under a ton no (unless you're buying them off Adverts :pac:)? http://www.akihabarashop.jp/ are fairly cheap anytime I used them.

That's not to put you off airmax87 - cabs are amazing things to own - but you need around a grand to get one up and running in your house with something to play on it. You'll then spend more over time.

If you were to get 12 Sanwa buttons plus 2 Start buttons and 2 Sanwa sticks from arcadeworlduk you're talking about 100 euro inc delivery.

Arcadeworld is obviously the problem then! Rip off that is.

Why would you need a step down? Why not just change the PSU?

Some cabs have a custom PSU,
    Like the blast and E2,
I think the audio amps are built into them.
If they did fail tho you could put in a 220v jamma psu but you'd still need to supply the monitor/marquee light with 110v

About 19 euro in the difference between arcadeworlduk and akibashop. So if you're in a hurry it's not so bad as I get stuff next day from arcadeworlduk, but there is a saving if you don't mind waiting on the delivery from Japan

Not a massive difference and you wont get stung from customs

    Hah :D

Why wouldn't your marquee work? It's Japanese so it's designed to run off 100v. Both my marquees work...

Didn't cost 200 euro by the way, more like 100 if I remember correctly. 500w dual output ;)

I'd be tempted to test that €19 theory out if I had more time. :)

    Arcadeworlduk
    JLF-TP-8S-SK = £25.80 = €32 approx.
    OBSF-24 = £1.92 = €2.4 approx.

    Akihabarashop
    JLF-TP-8S-SK = 2695Y = €20 approx.
    OBSF-24 = 179Y = €1.3 approx.

That's just one stick and one button and already a saving of over a tenner.

    (Unless I'm doing something wrong.)

I could be wrong on the price difference, I just did a quick comparison :0)
Anyway, I don't like to wait so if arcadeworlduk have what I need and it's not insane money I'll probably go for that with next day delivery.

I tought you had issues with a marquee?
Also do you know japan uses 100v 50hertz in the east and 60hertz in the west?

Yeah that's the only drawback, longer delivery time. Which can be annoying if you've no patience like me! Currently F5-ing my Parcel Motel page every hour or so waiting for some items to appear. :o

Some electric companies original bought their generators from the Yanks and others got theirs from Europe way back when.. hence the two standards.
Think everything is running at 60Hz now though ?

    Oh yeah!

That was to do with the mains electricity in the old house I was renting and nothing to do with my setup. The Last Bandit stuck a multimeter into a socket to confirm :D

All works grand in the new gaff!

Picked up this bit of modding loveliness from The Last Bandit this evening.

Some of my PCBs have no freeplay option, so you need to press the service button to insert a credit.

    Not any more! :D

The coin up function is now wired to a little switch - which sits in and around the coin mechs.

Took me a little while to figure it out as I was thinking in the wrong way. I was trying to get the coin return buttons to depress and press the switches directly.

Then I realized I should use the actual coin return mechs to press the button instead.

On the Pony when you press the coin return button down, it presses a piece of steel that's hinged to something inside the cab. Was just able to put the switch under that piece of steel and it works great.

Chunk of bluetac had to suffice for the moment, will get some sugru.

    IMG_20140918_192528115_zps09132454.jpg

The SNK one was a little more difficult. I found a spot where when you press the return button it presses down a lever and then pushes a part of the coin mech out.

    Bit of brown tape later;

Very nice. Are they wired into the Jamma harness or something?

A while ago I bought a couple of those voltmeters made by FrancoB.

So they were a nice base to wire in coin up buttons :)

The white wire on the top goes to the credit up button.

That's pretty cool, always interesting to see modifications folks can do with their cabs (the decent kind of mod!). But I have a question, why not use coins to coin up? No Yen, mechs not working, too lazy? :)

FrancoB - once you see his name being mentioned you know it's quality work.

I used to use coins to coin up and although it's novel, I found it annoying to be honest. Whenever I've people around playing games they'd be flying through the coins and I'd have to keep emptying the bucket.

Easier just to tell them to press the coin return button and that's the end of it! :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,722 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

Nice job :) No cheating now though by lashing in loads of credit !!

Yeah that's true, much more convenient with friends around. Coins are handy for practicing though.

Nice neat solution Oisin. Handy having the coin return button on the control panel area.
