Awesome piece of history to have with a cabinet
Does it have the plaque or have you even checked yet?

Imagine a time you could have hopped in a car and driven to where they make Atari/Namco stuff.
Set up a shrine or something....

There should be (if not already) a granite block on the ground near the place with a brass plaque commemorating it right?

I don't pray to a god, but if I did it'd be wearing either a Namco or an Atari t-shirt

I see Billy Mitchell has been stripped of some of his high scores and banned from competition because he didn't use official cabinets but emulation.
Famed high-score gamer Billy Mitchell, best known for his leading role in "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" documentary, was officially stripped of his "Donkey Kong" and other video game high scores and banned from submitting scores to the world's largest tracker of video game world records following a decision that he cheated, Twin Galaxies announced today.

"With this ruling, Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the first million point 'Donkey Kong' record holder," the group wrote in its announcement. "According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder."

Great find and should be a lovely restoration. Where did you pick it up from?
Be sure to post some pics or one of your videos.

Went to token for a couple hours last night to play some pinball.

Their pinball tech has a lot to do. Tons of minor issues and a few bigger ones with the pins. Lots of them easy fixes, like new carbon steel balls, almost every pin I played with magnets had magnetized balls. Few of them were only giving out 2 balls instead of 3 for multiballs. It's a pity because they have a savage lineup

Had a couple of good games on Tables Of The Arabian Nights. I'd love that machine. Only real problem was the ton of forigners that were there shouting, screaming and slapping pins haha. I'm too used to playing in my garage on my own.

Place in general was rammed. Didn't get on any arcade machines though.

Hey, whats the deal with magnetized balls? The Star Wars i bought has a magnet in it that diverts the balls down one lane during a "trench run" type thing where you fire the ball from the xwing, sometimes it gets stuck on the magnet, sometimes it doesnt go down.

Do the balls get magnetized after a while or something? could this be the issue?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Oh yeah 100% my theatre of magic has magnets. After a while the ball will become magnetized and won't release from the metal when it's shut off.

Get the carbon steel balls. They reduce the chances of it happening.

Found a site full of links to images that can be written straight to your Raspberry Pi's SD card, and have a hyperspin like interface with artwork and video previews of games.

I can't link to the site obviously as they're pre loaded with roms, but they have the images in different sizes for SD cards, e.g. 16GB, 32GB, 128GB etc..

Here's a video of one of the ones I'm going to try out, note the guys in these videoes do not give away the links also:

I'm only interested in having arcade games playable in a cabinet or on a Pi really.
I have no interest in putting Console games on there.

Will these work on the new RPi3+ I wonder?
I know Retropie did work back in March, when the device was launched.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,253 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

Usually whats only required for the thing to boot on a new version of the pit if the underlying distro isn't the latest, is a 'dist-upgrade' on the older pi it would run on...unless something radically changes with the new underlying distro breaking everything :) so backup, backup, backuo!

I don't know how to backuo!
    What's a backuo??

Oooh a Neo Geo AES mini would be amazing!

Little Neo Geo bartop would be so good!

Ooooh, now this could be one to watch. I'm looking at the teaser picture too much given it could be a cardboard box, but I'm hopeful it's not some small lcd device anyway.

So many neogeo titles released on the switch lately it could be a dock with a proper joystick.. once its not neogeo x 2 I'll be happy.

So seeing as my consoles appear to be failing one by one (!) I thought I'd get back into the arcade game for a bit. Haven't really changed out any games in ages.

Went rooting in the attic and found this classic. Not sure why it's not in my cab full time actually, it's by far one of my favourite arcade games.

And it still works, phew! Been a couple of year since that has been powered up.
