I'm using standard non hyperlaunch Hyperspin, standard compiled mame64 but at 31khz. 640x480.
Everything so far looks ok to me too.

Never had to arse around with anything either. Perhaps I don't know what to be looking out for!

This Battle Garegga running through standard mame64, horizontal monitor at 31khz. No additional monitor adjustments performed.

No idea how or why, but on my cab using Soft15, HS & standard MameUI x64...things just work. I never had to go arsing around with custom resolutions for each game...they all seem to be displayed perfectly on the screen

If you are using regular Mame then it will scale the image to fit the desktop resolution so you'll never have those clipping problems as the actual resolution never changes :)

Switchres enabled will change the resolution with every game to get the best possible fit.
It supposed to look better but to be honest I've can't tell the difference really and changed my setup to just use a single resolution rather than faffing about trying to fix every game.

Ciderman's setup is using an ArcadeVGA on a 15k monitor. Much harder to get 100% right, a 31khz monitor is super easy to setup, almost plug'n'play :) My Naomi setup is testament to that!
I'd say if he would just delete all the files within the ini folder within the Mame folder and then tinker around with Mame ini he would get it working right. The ArcadeVGA manual recommends not disabling scaling within mame.ini because the game ini files describe the correct scaling per game to ensure pixel perfect displaying of games. If those per game ini files are gone (created with a ini creator specifically for the AVGA card) and scaling enabled within Mame.ini it should just scale to the resolution of the screen and he shouldn't have it trying to display off screen.

Well, I'm pulling what hair I have left out at this stage :(
And I'm also battling with xml database files too, as Hyperspin doesn't audit your files, bugger!
    Using Hyperlist

Ah xmls! To be honest I ended up leaving them alone as I have HyperHQ set to only show games that have themes and wheels.

Hyperspin doesn't have as many as those as you would expect.

Nop, you only have problems adjusting the screen each time you change board and making sure your voltages are correct for your rare original boards...and then there is storage! ;)

At this rate I'll just use MameUI!
Then figure the fugging refresh issues!
Actually, the Mame Resolution tools seem pretty nifty, just have to use them right, fingers crossed!

Does groovymame and the calamity drivers not have resolutions set per game? Iirc.
    Could try that.

It would probably mean dropping the ArcadeVGA for a standard gfx card and soft15khz.

    Could try that.

This is what causes the problems, the calamity drivers will configure 120 different resolutions and then try and then use the one most suitable from the game.
Chances are slim that the timings will match your monitor for every resolution. It does have preset for certain arcade monitors build in so your laughing if you have one of those models.

Might not be pixel perfect but for the troublesome games if you change the ini to:
    switchres 0
    hwstretch 1

The game will be made to fit the desktop resolution as best as it can.

Can any one clarify the following for me please.

Are regular neo geo mvs cart based games included in the mame romset? I.e. they have been adecrypted and emulated in mame

What about neo geo games that were released as standalone jamma pcbs, metal slug for example.

There were very few MVS games released as standard Jamma boards. Only ones which come to mind are late Metal Slug games (I think it was 4&5) and SNK versus Capcom. May be a couple more.

All MVS has been emulated anyway. A very long time ago too!

Thanks Oisin. That's what I thought. Just was doubting myself there for a moment until your orcaleness steered me back on course.

Would be nice to have a reason to take some smutty PCB pics. Might give me an incentives to clean some of them too :D

Man, they're some bad photographs. Loads more which haven't gone under the lens yet too. This should be fun.

You weirdos already have an arcade thread, what more do you want?
Why don't you all just frak off to Jamma+!

Kind of like post here when you get something new - 'Pictures of your Arcade Gear'.

Would be nice to see folks doing a showcase on each of their cabs. Loads of pics in and out with info about it. No post without pics.

A lovely collection indeed, but with no candy, the thread would need to stay open. Ashtray filled with jellybeans does not count! :P

@o1s1n: Get some PCB names into your post, I know some are obvious but some non-PCB nerds might wonder what they are.

Like that Vendetta pcb... my old chum /sniffle :D

Ah yeah, I'll photograph them all properly and have them all named and numbered. Just thought I'd throw up some PCB insta porn :D

Vendetta is my ultimate nostalgia PCB. Putting that one brings me back in time I tell ya!

In fact, as much as I love shmups and side scrolling shooters, I always gravitate towards Ciderdude's favourite genre - side scrowling brawlers. They seemed to be what I played most when I was younger - simply for the value for money. You'd get miles more out of your 10p than you would any other genre.
